Indonesian coffee is a passion of mine. When I lived there I had the honor of trying coffee from all over the country. They also have an especially excellent specialty coffee scene. I’ve had delicious coffee comparable to the best hipster coffee in California, even inside wet markets in small towns in Java (at a coffee counter..) When I was in Kuala Lumpur last week, I found a small micro-roaster called Blitz and Co inside a coworking space. Aqmal Hadi the owner / roaster is super passionate about his craft. He excitedly showed me a batch of Liberica beans and said ‘bet you haven’t had this before!’ And gave us cup after cup of really delicious coffee. One even smelled like blue cheese! I was so impressed I ordered a kilo. Turns out that these coffee producers in Wonosalam, East Java, just won a national award for best green beans. Aqmal shared his thoughts on why we don’t often hear about specialty coffee using Robusta or Liberica, but he’s bullish on up and coming producers and roasters taking over family businesses and starting new types of production and roasting that will be suitable for ‘third wave’ coffee. East Java is one of my favorite places on earth and I hope to return some time soon. #Coffee #Indonesia #Java

OpenJDK 27 released to FreeBSD ports tree I just pushed a port for OpenJDK 27 to the main branch of the FreeBSD ports tree. In additions to the upstream changes, the following BSD specific improvements are included: Fix os::naked_short_nanosleep on OpenBSD when < 20 miliseconds.Only return symbols that match the requested address for dladdr(3) on BSD. The latter also reverts the default visibility of symbols in libjvm.so to hidden, which should make loading the library faster, and reduce the memory consumption slightly. As always thanks to @FreeBSDFoundation@mastodon.social for sponsoring my work on the OpenJDK for FreeBSD, and also to Kurt Miller for digging into the details for the BSD specific fixes for this release. #FreeBSD #OpenJDK #mywork #java #jvm #FLOSS

I Built Shree AI OS — A Deterministic AI Runtime for Java 21 After several months of development, I'm releasing the Developer Preview of Shree AI OS, a Java-first AI runtime designed for building intelligent backend applications. Most AI frameworks focus on chatbots. My goal was different: create a reusable runtime that developers can embed directly into Java applications with memory, planning, reasoning, and hybrid retrieval. Why I built it While building Spring Boot applications, I found that adding AI often meant stitching together multiple services. I wanted a deterministic runtime that provides: Hybrid RAG with PostgreSQL pgvectorEpisodic and semantic memoryPlanning and reasoning modulesMulti-agent orchestrationPrivacy-first architectureJava 21 native SDK Architecture The platform follows a layered architecture: Application LayerSDK LayerRuntime OrchestrationKernel ServicesLLM Provider Layer Every request flows through an explainable cognitive pipeline instead of directly calling an LLM. Developer Portal I also built an official documentation website using Next.js 16, React 19, Tailwind CSS 4, and Framer Motion. It includes: Architecture documentationSDK referenceQuickstart guideSecurity modelInteractive playground UI Tech Stack Java 21Spring BootPostgreSQL + pgvectorNext.js 16React 19Tailwind CSS 4 Feedback Welcome This is still a Developer Preview, and I'd love feedback from Java and backend developers.
