@paul_ipv6@infosec.exchange @nomdeb@mstdn.social @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org what's wild to me is that Illinois just got rid of the elder retest. as a cyclist, i'm not happy about it my mom kept driving long past the time she should have, tho she was young she had no reflexes or coordination bc of a disease. ended up driving into someone's front porch, into parked cars, still kept driving i've solved this problem for myself by deciding to not have a car anymore, when i moved to chicago several years ago. i plan on never owning a car again

gaaa she is so cute sometimes. #dogs #DogsOfMastodon

@allanfriedman I learned that Chicago will give citizens (over 50) without health insurance a free shingles vaccine as well.. so if ppl need one but are uninsured, check your city's health department

@ajayiyer@mastodon.social elife is interesting and they accept publish a lot of different types of papers they have an open book review process last i checked, where you can see who the reviewers are, what their comments were, researchers' replies, etc. https://elifesciences.org/browse

@JonathanMBR@mstdn.social i've been to some of the world's largest cities, and some quite a few times.. NYC, London, Beijing, Sao Paulo, Tokyo.. but I was still very impressed by Nairobi and its utterly massive size ... here is the view after takeoff, Nairobi to Entebbe, 2026 #travel #Africa.

@Migueldeicaza and the dashed lines showing the so-called disputed border around the Golan Heights... an area that is in SYRIA, not israel. SMFH. should not be in dispute - israel is simply an invading, occupying force when they aren't busy promoting religious extremism and terrorism

Sunset from Space NASA astronaut Chris Williams took this photo of an orbital sunrise from the International Space Station on June 26, 2026. In 24 hours, the space station makes 16 orbits of Earth, traveling through 16 sunrises and sunsets. Image/Caption credit: NASA/Chris Williams #NASA #Earth #space #photography

@ai6yr oh lawd... this was me in an uber a few months ago only used for airport transportation, bc public transit takes so long - and is about the same price. but ugh. i got picked up by a tesla and i'm like 'am i gonna die in this thing?' and 'how can i get out if we have an issue' during the entire ride

@sfoskett@techfieldday.net @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org there are little silicon molds they make for this too, i prefer them over microwaving plastic https://microwaveshub.com/how-to-cook-eggs-in-silicone-mold-in-microwave/

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org i used to never travel to Europe during summer bc of the expense. now it's the wildfire risk that keeps me away

this stuff used to make news when WW3 wasn't popping off, but sea surface temperatures in general are tying record highs right now #wx #ClimateChange #oceans

@LiamOMaraIV@mastodon.social crazy to think i just learned about this like, last year https://www.nps.gov/poch/learn/index.htm

@dbattistella@mstdn.ca So awesome. I'd read about this resort plan a few months ago and was horrified. Really glad the news reached Albanians and they had the same reaction

has anyone out there read House of Leaves? it's a mysterious, fascinating book that i love now A24 is doing a movie, Backrooms. the preview reminds me of that book, but apparently, this movie is related to an old 4Chan post? anyone know anything about that? #movies #books #bookstodon #Backrooms #A24 #HouseOfLeaveshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIH8Nkb2V_c

@amydiehl never thought that my decision to never have children would trigger the right. silver linings!

@AncTreat5358@lgbtqia.space yeah i watched it late, and was pleasantly surprised.. personally, i much preferred Ex Machina and took it more seriously bc it seemed to have some gravitas i found a lil lacking in M3GAN. but, M3GAN was definitely good in its own way IMO

@Geri@mastodon.online i truly hope the tide is turning...

@superbetsy i'm a cyclist, and i find these signs to be utterly hilarious even though i have ridden over train tracks in extremely snowy weather and gone down like a sack of bricks (i know this sign is about getting your wheel caught, not slippery when wet, just sayin i've busted my ass on tracks before) -- still hilarious

@CiaraNi@mastodon.green @RMiddleton@mastodon.art agreed. i loved dancing. i went to clubs and raves all throughout my youth. and i was never bullied in those spaces, but i was bullied in general, so i understand the fear of being recorded and then mocked i always feel lucky to have gotten to grow up before the internet became a thing.

@davidgerard@mas.to Fckn YIKES

@ipsquiggle There are No Accidents by Jessie Singer is excellent, IMO sort of tangential to the topics you mention, tho. i found it to be a great nonfiction read another one i loved is Devil in the White City, which intertwines the true stories of a serial killer and the architect who pulled off the Chicago World's Fair https://jessiesinger.com/book.html https://eriklarsonbooks.com/book/the-devil-in-the-white-city/

@HannahClover @KydiaMusic yes, this (collecting vinyl) is definitely a huge thing among younger folks now i have always had a turntable, and i still have a vinyl collection showing my age but..sheet, i even know how to crossfade. DJs these days don't even use records anymore! 😂

@kcanales02@mastodon.social @QasimRashid@mastodon.social i'm so lucky to have a rep who really cares and does the work. but my senators? lmfao dick durbin? a pathetic defender of the status quo, like most other dems

@anglemaece@toot.cat looks great! after 15 years of sewing i still can't believe the amount of fabric some things consume. ive been looking at costume-y patterns lately and some of them have yardage in the double digits, it's wild

@ai6yr oh my goodness luckily it was not. Only saw a dead wildebeest and a dead zebra, the former? Cheetah food. The latter? Vulture food 🤣

@coolcalmcollected@mastodon.social @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org ok that's funny bc there is a line of patagonia bags called black hole bags. i have one, it's black (with bright pink and bright turquoise piping and highlighting) and it's really good for travel but it is not my hiking bag! if it is, something is really wrong!! lol (i have a hiking bag that is all bright turquoise, and it actually has some really useful info printed on the inside of it, like the proper hand/body signals to use to try to get help, or SOS n stuff)

@SRLevine agreed!

@jalefkowit i still routinely use this number at grocery checkouts to get the coupons, bc for whatever reason, i always forget Mike Jones' number, it was a bit after my time 😂 (for anyone who wonders, both usually work)

@Twotired @Natasha_Jay @janwwbosch i started doing this about five years ago and still do it constantly. i will see something happened (past tense) in like 2024, and i'll think to myself "but 2024 is like 4 years from now" or i'll see the age of an actor who i think is way, way younger than me and i'll think "oh that's not right, that person is in their 20s" reader, that person is 37

@ai6yr indeed!

@sfoskett@techfieldday.net @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org youre welcome!

@nickgully @krahabors i hope you enjoy Chicago!

@KydiaMusic word. that's an excellent joke

@Lkdc youre welcome!

@Lkdc i used ting for years and i liked them. i dont think they do prepaid but they have a pay-as-you-go https://tingmobile.com/

@auzzy thanks!

@bitchboss Indeed. Water crises have been causing major conflicts already for awhile, and they're getting worse. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/jan/23/water-related-violence-increase-pacific-institute

@Remittancegirl Wow. I feel like 1.5m is crazy low for this nightmare

@tzimmer_history i'd say 'good idea,' but most democrats seem to represent corporations i dont think Chuck Schumer has any right to make assertions about America. he thinks his fictional Bailey family are important. the john oliver segment on him really just crushed any hope i have that dems can meet this moment. i love my Rep, Delia Ramirez. but my 2 dem senators? lol -- Durbin?? Duckworth? they might as well be Israeli lapdogs meanwhile, Newsom out here shittin on trans folks. SMFH
