Thanks to that viral post a few weeks ago some of us decided that a rewatch of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is necessary. To that end it will be tonight at 9PM EDT / 6PM PDT (I think everyone interested is in North America). It is available on the internet archive, along with tubi, your favorite high seas port, or a VHS tape recorded off a television 30 years ago. The hashtag for this extremely loosely coordinated event is #WFRR and anyone is welcome to join in and expound on the evil of the freeway and the joy of a trolley system while pining for Jessica and/or Roger Rabbit (we won't judge).

Just found out I wasted 3 weeks of work, a significant amount of solvent and other reagents because the commercial starting material is not what the bottle says it is to add insult to injury what is in the bottle isn't even clean, there is at least one other thing in there. Hilariously (not really) the only reason I determined this was because I'm making something from the literature and none of my spectra were matching close enough. Went back to the start to check and remade the first step, it produced the same wrong thing. Tried some other conditions, same deal. Finally took an NMR of the starting material today. #ChemiVerse #Chemistry

Just finished The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri (first book in the trilogy), which was a sprawling fantasy in the best way, while somehow mostly taking place in a tiny corner of one city (in the "present day"). Fantasy with its roots in South Asia, so very different from the usual. And the women are all complex and interesting characters (I kind of love Malini, she would totally vibe with the LotR movie scene with Galadriel and the ring*) I think @ansate@social.coop might have been the one to recommend it to me? I give them a passing squeeze pretty much every time I get on the bike because I've been able to detect "got a slow leak and it is clearly less firm than it was on my ride in" at the end of the day at work, which is way better than discovering it in the middle of the ride home (in the dark). I fill with my floor pump that has a pressure gauge every Monday to ~100 psi (or whatever the first day of the work-week is that week), though I will occasionally top off on a weekend if I plan on a long ride (by Monday it is usually down to ~80 psi). I'm riding skinny road tires though in 28 mm width (and 25 on the other bike!). #BikeNite
