Thor had a very stressful day because there were thunderstorms. Ironically, Thor is scared of thunder.
It took me forever to find him because he is not usually allowed in the bathroom by himself. But I left the door open and he decided between the bathtub and the toilet was the safest place to be.
He is doing a lot better now that the storms have passed.

Spouse and I have finally conceded that perhaps our tattered hand-me down furniture should be replaced soon with pieces that actually fit the rooms better.

BTW, spouse made this vanity and the matching medicine cabinets, and I finished them. He also tiled the backsplash and did all the plumbing and electrical work. It really helps us save on labor costs, which ultimately means we can afford some nicer materials. I’m so hashtag #blessed that I married such a skilled and talented guy!

Spouse pointed out that even though both the door and drawer panels were cut from the same piece, the color looks different because of the way the grain is oriented: vertical on the door, and horizontal on the drawer.
It makes me wonder if that’s some of the frustrating color difference I’ve noticed in other kitchen cabinet photos of white oak.

I swear it’s gonna look real nice when it’s done (if we don’t butcher it in some way). This makeshift panel is a pre-finished maple which is actually going on the inside of our cabinets.
But the final panels will be white oak with brushed brass handles, like the rest of our cabinetry will be.

Yes I know marble isn’t as hard as granite or quartzite. I know it’s prone to etching and staining. We have laminate counters now and are used to using trivets and cutting boards already. Calacatta Viola is one of the more stain-resistant marbles when sealed. Homes and shops in Italy have had marble counters for hundreds of years and they just “patina.” The heart wants what it wants (but the heart also has to stay within budget so it’s a moot point).

In other news, I’ve been advised to go ahead and choose the final countertop material I ultimately want, because removing a temporary counter from new cabinets could damage them. Does anyone have any experience with this? It really puts a kink in my plans (even though I’d love to have my dream countertop now) b/c we can’t afford to do the whole kitchen all at once, so trying to match stone slabs later would probably be next to impossible.

I know! I think this is the most scared he's ever been of the thunder (he is most afraid of the vet ofc).
He even sat in my lap while I ate, which he never does. And then he *bit* me when I tried to make him get off me because I needed to use the bathroom! I was shocked. He did NOT want to leave!

For instance, I love this Calacatta Viola marble, although I have not seen it in person. Descriptions say it has “deep purple or maroon veining,” but to me it just looks black & white.
What do you think? I like the idea of black and white marble counters, b/c in our bathroom we have Negro Marquina marble counters, so the kitchen counters would be the inverse (I don’t want dark/black counters in the kitchen b/c of how much they show crumbs and streaks).
