The fallout from the eviction of a 87 year old woman, Maricarmen, from her life-long flat in Madrid has really shaken things up here. I'm so glad to see it. One woman interviewed from the huge protest said: "Why is it that our governments and our laws give more rights to a tiny few to make profits, but no rights for the majority to have a roof over their heads?Our taxes fund the existence of these governments and legal systems. Something needs to change! We can't keep paying to get fucked."

I want to be extremely clear on this matter:

1. This private message was unsolicited.
2. I AM a Jew. And calling out the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza is an ethical act that everyone who calls themself a Jew should be supportive of.
3. These fuckers who portray everything as a zero sum game are psychopaths.
4. Ensuring a safe and decent life for Palestinians does NOT preclude Israelis from having one too. To falsely paint it as a zero sum game is to promote genocide.

So, this is my very first go at making a glaze at home. The base is supposed to be an shiny opaque white. It all came out a little more satin than super glossy, but I'm very pleased. The plum coloured second tile is the base + 5% red stain and 0.8% cobalt carbonate. The third is the base + 2% rutile. The last is 2% rutile and 0.2% red iron oxide. The second pic are the variations on white and dark grey engobes. Something funky happened on the far right. haha. what's new? #pottery #ceramics

Whether it is white supremacists denying the evils of slavery, Holocaust deniers, Russians whitewashing Stalin or those trying to downplay the murderous waves of Mao's policies, I find the sin of rewriting history to serve ideology is maybe the worst intellectual sin of all time. Mostly because it unforgivably ignores the testimony of lived experience. That, to me, is beyond contempt.

Maybe countries that refuse to participate in genocide and in unprovoked wars, and don't kiss up to Trump, and acknowledge that they need and appreciate immigrants will start winning again. One can only hope.

I am sure this lovely lady didn't mean it this way but, for those of us who have lived in poor places, the fetishising of handwashing comes off as obscene privilege. There are women - yes, they're always women - all over the world who either don't have electricity or can't afford a washing machine. And they routinely spend a day a week handwashing a family's laundry. That lead, laughably, to the accusation that the entire Labour Party was anti-semitic. Especially laughable because it was an accusation levelled by the Conservative Party which hosts rampant racism of all kinds and has done forever. Labour's over-response to this accusation was emblematic of a lot of things, including its puzzling insecurity with its own legitimacy. But it was also revealing that it also couldn't seem to distinguish between opposition to Israeli policy and anti-semitism. 2/

Not surprising. I am constantly coming across people who conflate Jews and Israelis. The fantasy that Labour could be entirely free of the disease of racism is ridiculous. But the expectation that it should be, when other UK parties are rife with it - is to refuse to understand that racism is a disease that no organisation is immune to. The monumental stupidity of outlawing Palestine Action is self-harming to Labour. But it's a knee jerk reaction to historic accusations of anti-semitism. 3/

Should it ever manage to find its roots again, as a party of workers (the name is a dead giveaway), I will gladly rejoin it despite all its neurotic faults. Because historically there has been no other party in the UK that has represented workers as passionately. No other party has lifted so many out of poverty by their policies. As to them being both anti-semitic and pro-zionist at the same time? There is no other party that doesn't suffer from the same disease - racism is incoherence.

What Labour doesn't understand - because it is quite broadly representative of UK society as a whole - is that outlawing Palestinian Action in response to accusations of anti-semitism is, in itself, anti-semitic. Since it shows an inability to distinguish between legitimate protest against genocidal Israeli policy and anti-semitism. It is still conflating Jews with Israelis. As does most of UK society. This is not why I left the Labour party. I left it because it stopped being left-wing. 4/
