I am so sick of tying in six digit SMS codes to access corp tools. My IP address has not changed in several years. It's me! Hello! It's still me! How many times do I have to click the "don't show this again" checkbox? At what point will I get fully fed up and just automate the process.

Maybe I've been watching too much world-cup soccer... Or played too much as a kid. But tonight, when I got beat in my beer-league ice-hockey game, I decided to go with the soccer rules: you can take out the player on a slide tackle so long as you contact the puck first, right? My goalie seemed to agree I did the right thing. Fist bumps on the way to the penalty box. If not for these glorious 30 second clips, what's the paint of hockey? :-) #icehockey #soccer #worldcup #futbol #livebarn

@stsquad@mastodon.org.uk @gregkh@kernel.social I agree to some degree with this. However the article falls into the same trap my boss does of thinking all work that he doesn't like is "work" and only the interesting-to-him work could be "gym." To say technical writing and corporate logos aren't worthy of exercising your craft will leave you with terrible documentation and logos shaped like butt holes. So, no, work/gym is too risky. The ai user will user ai for all tasks they don't like. That won't match the work/gym split.

@mistersql@mastodon.social So your "YouTube" example of mastodon.social being blocked isn't exactly something this helps with if that's where I have my account and that's where I'm trying to go, only in some other use cases where I don't really care where what is blocked. It feels this is an experimental project that is hunting for a problem to solve.

Now if you don't lose that contraption, it will last approximately 10 human lifetimes without ever needing repair, and possibly 100 if you decide to repair it. I wish stuff was sold brand-new with this hardware-store-repaird aesthetic. My wife and daughter would not approve.

@triz@normal.style another possibility... the ai box kinda works, but only with an expert operator. Bob doesn't have experts who can get the results that Alice can. So Bob sells to Alice. Unfortunately the box is advertised to work without an expert operator, so Alice fires all her workers. Alice then produces reports showing her productivity gains as measured by how many tokens her team used... She fails upward to land a job as ceo of a bigger company.

@petrillic@hachyderm.io that's pretty cool. I wonder if it has the two footprints I drew up today. I had downloaded them from digikey (ultra librarian) but despite having three versions that matched the name none of them matched the recommended land pattern from the manufacturer's datasheet. Complete garbage. AI? Dunno. So I modified them to match the drawing.

@azonenberg@ioc.exchange it sounds like they built up a system without basic tests because they had a working system to bootstrap from. So they only tested the sunny day cases. This is a problem that starts with second or third generation engineering... And management and engineers who don't do long term support love it because it delivers "working" systems fast. ... but it ends with the tower of babel.

@azonenberg@ioc.exchange Oh, no, that's not what I meant. I just meant that they didn't catch the inability to pass 8b/10b in the 32b/64b mode because they only tested sunny-day use cases. I bet they dropped in a 32b/64b phy next to the existing 20b/40b phy. (Code reuse! -> Ship fast! -> Profit!) And they never tested 32b/64b from the ground up (e.g. the way you might, by starting with a 0/1 pattern on a scope, moving to 8b/10b, then moving to 32b/64b. They jumped straight to 32b/64b testing: pass==done

@cxiao@infosec.exchange as a target of the ai push (ee working at a tech company), I am not looking forward to the long fallout from the popping bubble. But there are too outcomes that may happen. Unlikely: true AI arrives that requires no human guidance. In which case the trouble with regulation will become front and center. That feels as likely as a QC or cold fusion break through. Likely: tech will start hiring green engineers again who can start learning the ropes so they can eventually become seniors.

@azonenberg@ioc.exchange I'm not familiar with gen1 vs gen3. It sounds like it was found due to a mismatch between some customer's presumption that it should work with 8b/10b and the reality of what was implemented. So hopefully switching to 20b/40b worked well enough as a work around.

@leberschnitzel@existiert.ch @moh_kohn@mastodon.scot Often I find that the software people saying "but that's a lot more work for us" are actually saying "but that's not work that I can do in my favorite framework that I want to use so I can put it on my resume because it is currently in hot demand in the job market." I find software engineers not very interested in the customers or the company vision, but more focused on their own career growth. Management fails to push back, unaware.

So if the passwords are entered by a human they probably will match the dictionary based algorithms pretty quickly. Same I was able to brute force a bad windows 8 laptop password a few years back with physical access to the machine. Passwords like "Yo1235!Mama" aren't going to stand up to much.

@penguin42@mastodon.org.uk @GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social Salt only prevents a rainbow table (pre-computed lookup), right? Brute force is not slowed down by a salt in the least. SHA-256 would take a long time to crack if the password is well outside of what the brute force method will guess. Then an exhaustive search would be needed, and that would make it unattractive/expensive for criminals. It's 2026, so the best practice has moved up, that's all.

@Jumpmed@mastodon.social @jeneralist@mstdn.science Having looked at the paper again, I'm reminded that they do not look at whether individuals were vaccinated or not, so that's the real reason why this study can't publish comparison data. Right: the plots just show a correlation of death rate vs vaccination coverage over time. (Someone could certainly _do_ a comparison study: and there is something to compare: compare 0 deaths in the vaccinated 90% vs 0 deaths in the unvaccinated 10%.... but uh... yeah.)

@futurebird Do you have references explaining how the recent LLMs have been trained to do this? I'd be interested in understanding what this training methodology looks like in detail. I didn't actually think this "conversational training" was necessary, as I thought the chat-bots were just told 'you are a chat bot, pretend to have a conversation, put your output directly in the next line. Here is the user's first inputs: "It's a lovely day"' Or something like that.
