@nixCraft You ever work with a new developer who's super excited to work on a project, and they stay up all night, every night working on code, just pumping it out. And it's cool, and it works, but there's no testing, no real code review, no planning, no real defined goals. Just developer on 1000 cups of coffee. Coding with ClaudeCode CLI is excellent if you simply have it do the scut-work for you. I mean, take a screen shot of an old app that you are converting to another language and say, "Make me a form with all these fields, using the styles I have defined in this css..." And it grinds it out, just like a normal wizard that makes a template that is like 90% done from a viewer-perpective. Now tell it, "I need to design an inventory system for a rental company that includes windows of availability for both serialized and pooled stock" And it will give you a gigantic system that 100% will not work at all, ever. So, real thought is still absent.

@nixCraft I'm just facinated at my friend who used to go on and on and on about how various browsers were insecure because you could write scripts that might go into memory spaces of other pages or frames, etc... Same guy: --bypass-permissions!! Here's the creds to all my client's servers.

@cxiao@infosec.exchange I'm no evangalist, but I am a realist. Fighting this shit as a single evil is like trying to fight the internet in the late 90's. Or even as simple as a "Just say No" campaign and stacking pot in there with crack. The only solution is to somehow regulate and control the development and use. We have to ensure that specific kinds of datacenters are so expensive due to environmental reasons that only the most efficient tools are designed. We have to regulate workplace implementation to ensure protection of employees. And others will say, "but internationally..." That's EXACTLY the same as saying we can't have labor laws because we can't compete with bangladesh/vietnam/cambodia Anyway, it's coming, and we need to deal with it before it takes us down. Unfortauntely, I have no idea how to do it.

@Nonilex that's one of the only charities I have a regular donation to. Unfortunately, it seems like the power of legal action is practically negiligable with today's republicans. It's always shoot-first and then delay the lawsuit until they can replace the judge or prosecutor.

@Crystal_Fish_Caves@mstdn.party @mastodonmigration@mastodon.online they're people who aren't racist, sexist and homophobic - but they're ok with it as long as the price of gas is low. People who are willing to help out their neighbor's trans kid, but if they had to chose between that kid and paying an extra $2 at the pump, that kid's gonna have to deal with his own problems. They're called "moderates".

@briankrebs I have to admit.... earlier this week I spent like 5 hours trying to get this Ubiquiti camera system to work. I tried everything I could think of. finally, I just gave ssh access to claude code, set it on no-permission-necessary and told it to keep trying to get those cameras online until they work. then went out and had a nice dinner with my wife, a couple glasses of wine. Came back to shut the thing off.... all set worked perfectly. Still running. so. If you folks don't think you can be replaced (at least partially) with AI, think again.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online this is exactly how to do it. Another thing: Cash. It seems crazy, but the reality is that massive credit card companies and banks keep your money outside of your city/town and invest it there. I just paid $20 for lunch at my local cafe. I know the guys who work there are getting paid off the books, so they're taking that same cash home and stopping at the bodega for food, and paying in cash, giving their kids allowance in that cash, shopping at the chinatown hardware stores in cash, etc.... the money gets multiplied and stays out of the hands of big corp. And the reaility is that, no matter how liberal, *ALL* big corporations are bad. ALL of them have a negative effect on your home town. ALL of them. Small business + Cash whenever possible.

@leighelse the people in idocracy were idiots.... but they actually were trying to fix problems. Our leaders are idiots and they have zero intention of doing anything but enforcing hate and making money. The reality is, we're much worse off than idocracy

@karlauerbach@sfba.social I think the best way to introduce it would be in party primaries. Seems like that would bypass any real legal issues. My biggest issue is really that the primaries in my town are generally between kinda progressive, basically republican (ie 'moderate dem'), and absolutely batshit crazy maga. The problem is that the money wins.
