Ideally you'd have one person write the tests based on the spec and another write the code based on the spec so you can compare weather you have the same interpretation of the spec. :) I don't think I've ever worked on something where writing tests like that would have been easier and less error-prone then writing the code

Windows regularly drops support for older hardware for "reasons" and new ARM Notebooks try to not let you install other OSs, especially Apple HW. It's just that no one asks how many months of windows updates a device is going to get and the manufactures claim they have no influence
