@aparrish@friend.camp There was a cool-looking Git-versioned database tables program out there (can't remember the name, but it used an embedded Postgres Go engine). They had open sourced the CLI but then kept all the hub and infrastructure closed. Even though it looked neat, I just couldn't let myself get into the project because it felt like... I don't know, OSS-washing a commercial project. Kind of like how Lidarr has some mysterious closed-source infrastructure framework you can't take out without making code changes.

@b0rk Reasonable Colors is what I use on many of my sites. https://www.reasonable.work/artifacts/ra005-reasonable-colors/ 2014 Material has a palette I've liked for some of my sites: https://codepen.io/stOrM/pen/YzdwaLq (sadly, I don't have a canon source for that one). Leicmin uses https://ninedegreesbelow.com/photography/gimp-srgb-lch-color-palettes.html saturation 4 and 8 for color palette which I ended up writing a CSS var's based sheet: https://src.mfgames.com/leicmin/leicmin/src/branch/main/src/assets/css/colors/palette.css

@raven@fedi.raventhemaker.com @davidrevoy@framapiaf.org Yeah, a "click what you want" or ala carte choices makes it harder to upsell but also wasteful for a lot of my support since I rarely want the stickers and buttons that get thrown (not in this case). Oh well, already threw my few cents in.

@reichenstein @veronica Sort of ditto. :) I wrote a publishing framework to make ebooks and PDFs from Markdown after I went all-in somewhere around 2008 (from Creole markup). Now I pretty much think in it and have programs to make it pretty; and a bunch of doc/odt conversions to/and from Markdown because I can't convince my editor to put their edits in a pull request.

Today, one of MIL's friends said "you're into computers, right?"

Me: Every day for forty-five years.

Them: Can you explain something. Why does my computer work fine for years and the everything moves around and I can't find anything?

Me: Capitalism.

Them: What?

Me: Technology like beauty magazines and food packaging. They have to always change something to convince new people to buy it. So they shuffle things around, give it a new coat of pain, and claim it's new and improved but not bother actually making it better.

Me: They want you to spend hundreds of dollars, or even thousands, for what effectively is a non-improvement or a slightly more powerful phone. Which is a harder sell if you don't pretend it's a drastic improvement by changing the appearance. The shuffling makes it harder to see how little you are getting.

Them: How do you stop?

Me: Stop buying the new toys. Repair what you can, buy with the intent of repairing, avoid companies that are always showing off the newest thing.

Them: Like Samsung? I have a Samsung.

Then we got to talking about how horrible Samsung and Apple are which led to me recommended Unauthorized Bread by Cory Doctorow and why I have a Fairphone and use KDE.

@b0rk I really wish there was more work on content addressable repositories and distributed identifiers for logins, mostly to make it easier to move, back up, or have more than one point of failure for that. One reason I've been playing with Radicle is to try out one person's idea of how to do that for issues/repos/files. There are some interesting ideas, but it needs more polish (in my opinion, obviously), but has the potential of reducing that. That said, I do self-host my own forge but I know its a single point of failure and has almost zero discoverability. It sucks because I'd like folks to use it, not deal with the hundreds of spam registrations, and the general crap involved with the process of self-hosting as opposed to writing code. Self-hosting definitely has a cost of time and effort. Sometimes its annoying. Going with a hosted service also has a cost, sometimes it is when they try to make a profit (I use to really love Gitlab, and I donate to Sourcehut).

@rl_dane@polymaths.social I don't use them but I have a couple bookmarked and did a quick check to see if they are around. write-good (https://github.com/btford/write-good)LanguageTool (https://dev.languagetool.org/http-server.html) - Looks like it has AI stuff on the remote hosted version, if that bothers you, but you can use it locally which probably doesn't have those resources. :) I've seen a number of CLI tools to interact with this including Gramma and Eloquentharper (https://github.com/Automattic/harper) is new to mevale (https://github.com/vale-cli/vale) was probably the most recent added to my bookmark listThere is another CLI that I thought I had bookmarked, but I can't find it anymore :(

@cstross@wandering.shop Oh, there are a few that I didn't know about and a couple I adore (Questionable Content, GrrlPower, and Olgaf). The ones I get excited about when they pop up on my feed: El Goonish Shive (https://www.egscomics.com normal and news pages) for gender fluid fantasy, pretty involved story, and lots of fun.Exorcism Academy (https://ea.asmodrawscomics.com lots of male nudity, some sex, lots of violence but with trigger warnings on the really graphic pages) just finished but it was a lovely yaoi romance between a devil and a human. How to Be a Werewolf (https://www.howtobeawerewolf.com/) werewolves, rather chaste, but some good drama and slice of life. Occasionally dark plots but nothing gory or depressing.Kevin & Kell (daily comic) about a furry world. I have a comic I sponsored in there, but they have decades of plots going on.Nine to Nine (https://www.tigerknight.com/99) contemporary furry hijinks, usually playful, occasional nudesSwords and Sausages (https://www.tigerknight.com/ss/) the fantasy youtube series by two of the Nine to Nine folks, much the sameTwin Dragons (https://www.twindragonscomic.com/) contemporary furry world about two dragon young ones as they make friends. Most of the arcs are fantastic and I like their excitement and adventures.
