I think the "official EU" should have multiple instances; after all, it's the Fediverse. That, in itself, would make for a far more resilient and robust solution.
And yes, "official Canada" should (obviously) also have something similar.
As for people being on X, and elsewhere, the light doesn't shine equally on people of the planet 😎

For many people, the added time alone is a show stopper, but when you add VAT, energy taxes, and other strange costs on top of that, train travel isn't as easy to choose as it should be.

When it becomes a invasive privacy issue for citizens that are already under surveillance by governments *and* tech giants, it's not quite the same thing.
Rule #1: Politicians should need to understand what they're actually trying to pass laws for, and how that works in reality.

@crisps@mastodon.social I think that's part of the problem. We, as a society, have failed to keep up with the rapid development of privacy intrusive billion dollar corporations (and government agencies) who, at their core, exploit human rights, such as the right to privacy.
Now the legislative branches and governments are trying to pretend they have a solution to a very difficult problem.
This is a double edged sword, to say the least.

Båda boysen vet vad de pratar om. Tyvärr är Sverige väldigt mycket steget efter när det kommer till viljan att bryta sig loss. Titta på SKR. Absolut att vissa myndigheter är mer på hugget än andra, men det går förbannat trögt.
Att företag som Begravningsbyråer och Advokatbyråer t ex använder amerikanska molntjänster är skrattretande med tanke på hur mycket personuppgifter som behandlas.

Yet, tax authorities throughout the EU, hunt down even the tiniest (say, < EUR 10000/year) of donations.
Meanwhile, tech giants get tax breaks (!) from the same EU when they rape our privacy and personal data.

It is a subsidy. I have no idea how this happened historically because I haven't bothered looking it up.
But the point being that if the EU wants people to use more environmentally friendly (or "less destructive") travel methods, they need to lower the threshold, or at least make the alternatives balanced.

If it would get popular and deployed on sites with many users and many entries, I'll consider it, but for now, there's a lot of convenience built into the files being the structure. But we shall see 🙂
