Hello everyone, I’m a 36-year-old honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran living in Charlotte, North Carolina. I’m reaching out today because I’m facing the very real possibility of losing my home, and I have exhausted nearly every resource I know. I have always been an independent person. I served in the Navy, built a career in sales, and worked to establish a small business. I’ve spent years trying to create stability and a better future for myself. Unfortunately, this year has been incredibly difficult financially. Losing my employment income led to months of struggling to keep up with rent, utilities, and basic living expenses. I’ve been applying for jobs, seeking emergency assistance, and doing everything within my power to recover. The hardest part is that I finally received the opportunity I’ve been working toward. I have a new job starting November 9, 2026. After months of uncertainty, I finally have a path back to financial independence. But I now face losing my apartment before I even get the chance to start. My apartment management has informed me that I must pay my outstanding rent balance by Monday, October 12, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern, or they intend to pursue eviction proceedings. Because two previous eviction cases were dismissed, management has stated that they will not voluntarily dismiss a third filing. My total outstanding rent balance is $3,017.18. Through the generosity of family and friends and by exhausting the immediate resources available to me, I’ve managed to secure $1,465. I am asking for help raising the remaining $1,552.18 to protect my housing. I know times are difficult for so many people. I’m not expecting any one person to solve this for me. Even contributions of $5, $10, or $25 would bring me closer to keeping my home. I can provide redacted documentation from my apartment management confirming the outstanding balance and deadline. What makes this situation particularly heartbreaking is how close I am to getting back on my feet. I’m not facing an indefinite period without an employment opportunity. I have a confirmed start date and a chance to rebuild. I’m simply trying to make it to that next chapter without losing the home I’ve worked so hard to maintain. Would it help to display a "posts hidden" counter on the various apps/UIs for Lemmy, Piefed, etc? This is a common support question that we get. It’s great that our platforms let users customize their feed to the extent that they can, but all this customizability can lead to confusion. Content can be hidden based on domain blocks instance, community, or user blocks language settings "seen" post settings bot post settings hidden post settings Instead of reducing the customizability, I think we can fix this by fixing visibility. A little optional UI counter, enabled by default, could let users see if some content is being filtered out and narrow down which filter is causing it. What are the technical challenges to something like this? I imagine it would need updates to the APIs to expose that information
