I am absolutely fucking SICK of all the unpaid work required to simply exist in the techno-hell that is 2026. I've just spent half an hour trying to take a photograph of my passport that Wise.com will accept – to no avail. They now want me to do something involving live photographs of myself and my passport using my smartphone. JUST FUCK OFF.
Let's just let the money launderers do whatever they want, eh? Let the mysterious people who might want to pay my bills do so. Let the people who want to login to my IKEA account to use my 173 points do that too.
I reckon I'd save about a day a week if I didn't have to do this shit any more. And given that billionaires are screwing over society far more comprehensively than any "organised crime", I just don't give a shit. Let them take it. Let them all take all of it.

I have actually worked for @mullvadnet@mastodon.online a couple of times, translating their book about why data privacy is so important and why Chat Control is an absolutely terrible idea. The people I worked with were lovely. But they weren't the CEO, who, presumably, would have thrown up his hands at the thought of paying me, an immigrant to Sweden. (Or is it only brown people who aren't allowed to pollute Swedish soil?)
Either way, I'm sorry for the non-racist people working there, who will presumably now be looking for new jobs in the not too distant future.
The thing with being an alternative tech company is that you have to keep your politics at the very least *not* out and out fascist. I guess that bloke is about to find that out the hard way.

The US wants full access to European police databases - which contain details of completely innocent people, like protesters and asylum-seekers. They’re threatening to remove visa-free travel if they don’t get their way.

One of the things I absolutely LOVE about the #livecoding movement, and particularly (?) #pastagang is that this isn't true.
Young people (and older people, who cares about biological age?) making music using technology, and deliberately saying that it doesn't matter if it's shit music, it doesn't have to be polished, it's not there for an algorithm (ironic, given that it's algorave music), and *yes* they're dancing. And they're being filmed. And they don't care.
It is fucking glorious.

Do we have any camera nerds out there? I've got two Nikon 1s (don't snigger, I love them) and they're both unusable at the moment - one has an unpleasantly terminal dark red screen when fired up, the other one objected to me inserting the wireless adapter the other day for the first time in several years and is now insisting that the clock has been reset, but won't let me actually reset it.
I haven't got either the money or the desire to replace them (I've got several of the nicer lenses that go with them, for a start), so I'd really like to find some way to repair them, if possible.
Any suggestions? I'm in Sweden, if that makes any difference.

Yet more of capitalism pretending to be environmentally friendly.
"Half sheets" of kitchen roll are actually more like 2/3 of a sheet, and you always take two because half a sheet isn't enough. So now we're using MORE than we were before they forced this stupid change onto us (at least in Sweden it's almost impossible to find the full sized sheets any more).

@CiaraNi@mastodon.green Apologies if you got the impression I was trying to say what he was saying wasn't true (I did try to confirm that in a second comment, but it's probably got lost in the thread).
And the people who are live coding aren't just doing it online, they get together to do it in physical spaces too (see the video I posted) and yes, they dance. I think that's a lovely countercurrent to the "everything is recorded and may be used against you" experience, and it makes me hopeful that there are ways out of this nightmarish situation.

@Tijflalol@mas.to @igimenezblb@oldbytes.space @fishidwardrobe@mastodon.me.uk @CiaraNi@mastodon.green Yeah, and when I think of it I was at a concert on Wednesday and although it wasn't really the kind of music you *dance* to (BRUIT), there were plenty of young people moving to the music and not giving a shit about whether anyone was looking.
BUT I do get the point of the original (and really excellent) rant, that these days a lot of the innocent and embarrassingly forgettable moments of everyone's lives are being captured and, inevitably, arseholes are gonna arsehole.

@seq@infosec.exchange I did, and I was SO GLAD. They were absolutely amaaaaazing. Just fantastic. So many weird time signatures, so much emotional weight in the music (I was in tears at least three times).
As for finding out what's on, I'm afraid I don't know! - I had a Songkick account until last week and that kept me abreast of stuff I could get to, but I've deleted it pga the Suno acquisition.
The only other gig I have lined up is Ghinzu (legendary Belgian band who haven't toured in the decade I've been listening to them) - in London! In June. As you can probably tell, I only go to gigs when I really really like the band, and that means I end up travelling stupid distances, but at least not very often.

Well this is pretty worrying, not only for the vast swathe of Europe that will be too hot to produce food, but also for the rest of it, which is largely currently supplied with food by those red bits.

Very very unlikely, but is anyone else out there going to see #BRUIT in Copenhagen tonight? I've been wanting to see them for aaaaages, but now it's come to it the logistics are quite difficult and I'm wondering whether I should just not go. Having someone to hang out with would really help!

@klemmi@chaos.social @seq@infosec.exchange Yeah, some bands are just worth a lot of travelling to see! This time it took me 4 hours to get to the venue - last time (GY!BE for me too!) was also in Copenhagen but an easier venue to reach, so maybe 3? And it was earlier so I could easily get a train back to Sweden.
I did take a couple of photos of BRUIT setting up, I think. Once they started playing my phone wasn't coming out of my bag!
