snac 2.93-devOnce a network operator at AS20621, I discovered my passion for #FreeBSD and #illumos. Today, I focus on #DevOps and development in Python and Rust, contributing to #Ansible, #Proxmox, #PegaProx, #Debian and #GardenLinux. My current journey explores the future of computing with #RISCV, testing it both in evaluation and production.

Thanks for mentioning my free VPS hosting project @BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe! However, great sources are also @vermaden@mastodon.bsd.cafe for his ongoing awesome work by providing a weekly newsletter about various BSD information and also @dexter@bsd.network for his great commitment for #bhyve virtualization. And there’re even many more ones that should be credited!

@BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe Returns to #FreeBSD: Migrating from #Proxmox to #Sylve (#bhyve)
Some journeys don't end where you expect them to. Sometimes they bring you right back to where everything began, only with a lot more experience and a much better ecosystem waiting for you.
That's exactly what is happening with BoxyBSD!
In my (longer) blog post I cover my circuit, where I moved from bhyve to Proxmox, developed many tools for Proxmox and now moved back to FreeBSD with bhyve and Sylve.
More details in my blog post: https://gyptazy.com/blog/boxybsd-moving-from-proxmox-to-bhyve-with-sylve/

Most nodes at @BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe are now operated by #bhyve on #FreeBSD via #Sylve again! Thanks to @hayzam@mastodon.bsd.cafe for his incredible work by crafting #Sylve! As it’s not that easy to drain nodes to be reinstalled with FreeBSD, there’re still nodes serving VPS instances via #Proxmox / #KVM.

hehe, indeed that post from March is luckily deprecated now 🙂
Thanks a lot and I'm happy that BoxyBSD can continue to operate.

#snac finally sends me push notifications!
Two things you can see here... It's pretty hot! That's why I stayed home and implemented a missing feature into snac. That's what you can also see - it finally sends push notifications to devices! In this case, we can see notifications coming from #MastoBlaster App for iPhone.
What we can also see, it's still a bit faulty and not the expected content, but a first success here at least ;) I'll make some further adjustments when there's time and get in touch with @grunfink@comam.es to check if we can get this upstream. Thanks to @stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe for testing with me :)

As I lost sponsoring (due to a whole location shutdown) for my @BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe & @BoxedTux@mastodon.social in North America, I’m looking for sponsors in US and Canada.
The requirements are pretty low:
NO IPv4min. IPv6 /48 subnet routedNetwork (ARIN/RIPE/…) should be personalized (netname, abuse,..)Optionally: BYOIPARPA delegation for the net to my nameserversmin. 2x 500G disk space (SATA SSD or better)min. 48G memory per nodebandwidth doesn’t really matter (100Mbit is fine)Remote MGMT to systemsSponsors are being listed on #BoxyBSD and #BoxedTux on the sponsoring page and announced on LinkedIn, Fediverse and X as new sponsors.

I submitted a talk proposal about #PegaProx for #Proxmox at the #FrOSCon 2026. Let’s see if it gets accepted. If you’re there - feel free to reach out to me! Happy to meet!

Luckily I was able to find solutions to keep this up and running (no box was offline during that time!) - the best? With https://boxedtux.com I’m starting similar platform focusing on #Linux for beginners and educational purposes

@stdevel@chaos.social @joshuasmith@infosec.exchange a few days before PegaProx got released I wrote some insights about it here (also comparing with PDCM): https://gyptazy.com/blog/pegaprox-real-datacenter-manager-proxmox-clusters/
Maybe it helps :) if you have any questions, let me know!
Edit: Btw, at the next virtualization gathering at @credativde@mastodon.social I’ll provide a talk about #PegaProx, #ProxmoxDatacenterManager and slightly introduce https://proxpatch.de (#ProxPatch) for #Proxmox 🙂 if you’re nearby, feel free to join - it’s free!

Happy to share that #BoxyBSD remains up!
Recently I got asked about my @BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe project, which offers free VPS instances of vary #BSD based systems for learning and educational purposes and I'm happy to share that this projects remains available. Several things could finally be clarified to continue this service to make sure people can learn and practice on real #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #NetBSD systems to #RUNBSD. Also, BoxyBSD starts moving over to #Sylve on #bhyve.
But not only that! We could also get some more new resources and locations to scale and this also brings up another new project for #free Linux #VPS instances at https://boxedtux.com (Fedi: @BoxedTux@mastodon.social) where people will be able to learn and practice on different #Linux based distributions (e.g., #Debian, #Ubuntu, #Rocky,...). BoxedTux utilizes #Proxmox clusters as a foundation.
Hope you like this small update... Over & out!

Meet #Starling, a lightweight #ActivityPub server for the #Fediverse, built with PHP and SQLite.
Run your own decentralized social platform on shared hosting or a tiny VPS WITHOUT Redis, PostgreSQL, or complex infrastructure.
What it makes so special to me? It looks awesome, comes with a great admin web interface and does not require a VPS instance where it can also be operated on a cheap shared hosting systems. By the given requirements, it also easily runs on a #RaspberryPI and all kind of systems, including #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #Illumos and more!
This all makes it perfect to everyone and even beginners to run their own instance. With relay support (e.g., fedi-relay.gyptazy.com) it even can consume and post content over non-directly connected instances in the #fediworld!
Kudos to the author of Starling: @df@s.dfaria.eu

I’m tinkering with a free #BGP peering service (by own VMs) for hobbyist AS owners, including free upstream connectivity at various locations. It’s still in the early stages, but I’d love to hear what features the community would find most useful.
Wondering how and why? With @BoxyBSD@mastodon.bsd.cafe and @BoxedTux@mastodon.social, I’m already running platforms that provide free VPS instances for educational purposes, learning and testing for years now. I guess, providing real AS and peering services (maybe even sponsoring LIR in cooperation [but this would cost money]) could also be very interesting for several ones, apart from the DN42 network. Happily looking for feedback…

#PegaProx just got released in v1.0 and is out of beta now!
PegaProx for #Proxmox VE and #XCPng clusters made a huge step and is finally out of beta!
The first stable release also comes around with companies providing enterprise support. If you need SLA-backed help running PegaProx in production (or training sessions) you can now find a support partner at:

@mkleger@swissodon.ch ja und nein. Es gibt ein issue für besser mobile integration, aber das ist aktuell eher nachrangig. Das kann dann aber bei genug Leerlauf trotzdem schneller gehen als man denkt 😉 Aber der Fokus liegt eher auf desktop usage.
