Ok, today’s xkcd is glorious!
[edit] I should probably mention you need to visit the site for the full effect, it’s more than just a comic today!

I had a quick look at the original post for this.
What actually happened was that the 80% off code it generated didn't work. The customer placed the order and put the code in a notes field demanding that it be honoured. The chat bot didn't have the ability to actually give discounts.
So while it's funny to read, in this case, the customer is just chancing it and I'd imagine any reasonable small claims court would not side with them.
Dear British Public,

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt and I aren't American, so we don't default to US law on such things (well. Not to speak for her. I assumed).
In the UK, if you found a TV with a sticker on saying it was only £10 when others around it said they were £1000, the shop could refuse to sell it to you (assuming it was a mistake), apologise and that would be it. They're under no obligation to sell it to you.
Plus your statement says "salesperson" - what's the law on whether a chat bot counts as a salesperson or not? I don't think they've been around long enough for there to be a large body of case law on it.

There are a lot fewer things on an EV to go wrong in the first place. Not quite answering your question, but they seem more reliable overall.

Can't tell if sarcasm, but if not then it's easy - pick a host that allows it. 🤷♂️
No-one can ban AI slop from the Fediverse, but people can choose to use platforms that don't allow it so they know their feeds will be cleaner.

It’s a reference to Monty Python’s The Life Of Brian where there were two groups resisting the Romans - “The Judean People’s Front” and “The People’s Front Of Judea”, and they… did not get along.
Edit: to clarify further. The joke was how much they hated each other despite the fact they were both against the Roman occupation AND had laughably similar names

One of the guys on my street has one and for historical reasons his parking space is in front of my house. I lived in fear that he’d get a cybertruck and people would think the wankpanzer was mine. Fortunately they’re still not legal over here, so I think I dodged that bullet!

The opposite of this is nested folders inside nested folders inside nested folders, quite often with hilariously long folder names each time. Then they wonder why they can’t open their files and I have to explain - again - that NTFS has a 254ish character limit AND HAS FOR THE LAST QUARTER OF A CENTURY.
So personally, I’d rather they kept everything in a single folder, because I’m not the one that will be searching for their documents.

@qlp you say “had to cave”, but the actual thing the dev did is way funnier than that:
>"I've added the ability to play as Mr Tofu who is a sentient block of Tofu which hides the players body with option to also hide hands," the developer's account replied.
>The developer continued: "This game is funded by hopes and dreams, so it's unlikely I'll have the breathing room to add a fully rigged male character with their own unlockable outfits and story beats. Hopefully the above is a reasonable compromise."
Apparently most people on the forum have seen the funny side.

Don’t forget, it’s 100 dollarpounds cheaper for education, and it’s more repairable. I think Apple are banking on schools replacing fleets of crappy Chromebooks with these.
Can you honestly say that after 3 years of MacOS you’d consider switching to Windows, if you don’t play a lot of games or need certain Windows-only applications?
I’ve been a Windows user all my life and an IT professional for half of it (3.11 to date) and I can honestly say that if it wasn’t required at work, I would be happy never using Windows again. I certainly don’t have it on any personal devices.
My £800 16GB RAM HP work machine is dogshit slow just to get to the desktop and load OneDrive. We’re talking minutes. It’s less than 40 seconds on my Air.
If my mother breaks her (hand-me-down) M1 Air, she’d be more than happy with a Neo.

@Phangurl@vmst.io @peregrine57@mastodon.social @jacobrealo@tenforward.social not to “well actually” you, but think Robin Curtis’s Saavik.
She also reprised the role in the (non canon) OTOY web series 765874 which heavily implied Spock had a son.
And since she had already had the kid, no reason to rush the wedding, so it could have been doing Picard’s lifetime…

Normally we do them on a Saturday, but yesterday being Star Wars Day (and a. bank holiday) and the concert theme being "They Came From Outer Space", we just couldn't resist.
