Did an image search for "juvenile robin"...nope, too round. "juvenile blue jay"... nope, too blue. We sometimes see swallows... "juvenile swallow"... no images found. What?? on the whole internet no one's ever posted a picture of ... oh. OH. 😳
(Because this is fedi: the right shape to be a grackle, but lighter and more mottled. Best guess is blackbird.)

Today in "if you can't beat em, join em": the birds kept crashing through or attempting to land on my bean plants on their way to the feeder. I kept finding broken stems and leaves with claw marks.
A sort of "desire path" - better to accommodate the need than fight it.
So I made the birds a perch.
Chuffed to see them actually use it, and my plants are still in one piece. #balconyGarden #containerGarden #cuteClumsyDemons
