#sgdq2026 is a great time so far, but i always lose track during the rhythm games. it's so cool that people can do this, and the first 1 or 2 times i saw them, i was in awe.
but then it settled in that it moves too fast for me to process the coolness of what they're doing and it becomes a whole bunch of tapping and flashing to hyper jpop that i don't really like and for some reason they do like 65 minute showcases for multiple different games
i kinda wish they'd just drop a 2 and a half hour chrono trigger category in or something.
i'm assuming they keep putting them in bc people who aren't me respond better to them, so that's okay. but i definitely tune fully out when they run the rhythm games and they're not speedruns so i kinda feel like, maybe outside of the odd 20-30 minute showcase, this kinda stuff doesn't fit at gdq

enemies are all just a puzzle to stagger and multiple together often spam you unavoidably when you focus on solving the puzzle for one and, yay, stunlock you

aerial enemies are torture. hitting them with non ranged characters is torture. aerial abilities dont snap well and aerial enemies move fast enough that you miss and waste atb half the time. esp with tifa
dodging is useless. it requires it for like 3% of enemies to pressure them. but no i frames and low distance travelled and no useful pressuring/staggering counters, make it pretty much boring and useless
i like lots of stufd about this game. its way less tedious than intergrade. but nothing can save this combat system.
granted i feel the same way about every combat system in the mainline ff series since ff12 put MMORPG combat in a single player game. utterly ridiculous string of choices.
