This was a fun demo to give on a tool for mastodon admins I've been working on for a while. We're now working to make it really world class and you can sign up to the wait list to learn more here: fediponics.com

@shauna@social.coop it's legitimately hard to parse which actions cause direct harm and which actions are using a system that is harmful but they don't have control over. there is so much grey area it all can blend together.

Again nothing is perfect. But here is an example of my "dry run" mode that will let you see what the bot would do if you toggled it on.

I want a No Venture Capital Internet News source where it only covers company not take venture capital. Sounds like a hard business to run.
Colbert should at least tease running for president by making an American version of "Servant of the People" which is a Ukrainian political satire comedy series created and produced by Zelenskyy

I have no idea what I am doing, but tomorrow I will demo this mastodon app to monitor new account signups at #FediForum in a brief 5 minute demo. The speed demos start at 8am PST!

I've been doing short demos for years so I hope I can nail it!

As a volunteer mastodon admin I HAVE to balance growing a community with managing my time.
One way this comes up is new account registrations. Approval or Open is the eternal battle I see happen. I hate it.
I want open registration but not loose my life to battling new account spam.
So here is a screenshot of the tool I built. It checks new accounts and grades them and then silences or bans them based on 54 different properties. It's not perfect but seems to work for me.
I was a huge TvTime user but the writing has been on the wall for multiple years as the app slowly degraded.
That's why I built Tvmarks. Powered but Tvmaze it's an activityPub enabled self hosted UI on top of a personal database that you self host.

I got this account that signs up over and over again with the display name:
KaJuan Marcell Horton
anyone else know what's up with that?
Sam Ice Coffee
Jim Acosta Just Did the Thing Trump Won't Stop Bragging About

I got 6.2 Miles per kilowatt on my 2026 Nissan Leaf once but It was the quarter mile down hill trip home for the local bagel shop.
Time to catch up on some youtube video notifications.

How does Netflix know when you take a screenshot?

@SueNeu@fosstodon.org as long as your a real person that's all that matters! All the current users are mostly English but no rules say it had to be that way

@eclinton@mas.to @AltTextHealthCheck@mastodon.social who doesn't love a leader board? What's your favorite metric to track? I feel like for most people it's sports team stuff.

I would love to think of a name that would let me hire someone to make some cool ass art for it

@andypiper@macaw.social I did build an invite system so if anyone was up to it I could share an invite code, if you know anyone who might be interested in testing it.
Congrats USA. Love playing Japan. They are so good and great players.
Beautiful assist by Jayden!!!
If I was a TV reporter I would end a lot of interviews by saying "good try, better luck next time"

@zaawou@gardenstate.social hello! are you a bot? I can't tell! Why did you pick our server?
@appleadaydietetics@gardenstate.social welcome to gardenstate.social! To help weed out the bots let us know how you found us and picked this server to join? Be descriptive!

I will not be surprised if it replaces me but I'm not sure what I can do about it.

@the_moep@mastodon.de content by users on external instances is always interesting to me because if I don't subscribe to them I don't really see it. So I feel less of an urge to put time in to that area.

@troy@opencoaster.net yeah. Sad to have a false positive. My instance gets so few real signups compared to bots it's hard for to me to tune it and also being 100% right is probably impossible.
also sad is there is no API to approve requests to join. So you would have to do even more hacking to get that to work. There are many admin API gaps. I also wish an API for appeals but there are none.

@reesecommabill@gardenstate.social I think it's an OS level DRM block so hard to get around. But I'm no expert.

@simonzerafa@infosec.exchange @jerry@infosec.exchange maybe one day. atm still feels not ready for broad use both from a security stand point and just from general bugs and weirdness.
