@lety@doesstuff.social again, the demons rumi interrogated were all soldiers of gwi-ma. it's entirely plausible that they're only the ones who volunteered to go invade the human world because they were the bad ones. up until this movie jinu seemingly never assisted gwi-ma, so i think a reasonable inference is that we're mostly just seeing the worst of them part of the reason rumi couldn't sing golden is because it was a lie. her uncertainty about if the demons she's fighting are evil reflects her uncertainty

@lety@doesstuff.social she doesn't have the information she needs to work out where she stands or what her truth is. the reason that makes her friends suspicious of her is that rumi didn't let them in to her problem. she would have long ago without her aunt's influence i also don't think the kpop group singing takedown in the credits was meant to validate the intent of that song given how much the film shows it to have been harmful. i think they mostly did it because they liked the song & wanted a full version

@lety@doesstuff.social should the movie get a sequel i imagine it would then delve more into the plight of the demons, the fate of jinu, what circumstances exactly lead to rumi's mother - herself a hunter - getting pregnant from a demon idk. i just feel like there's enough here that i feel conveys the situations as the hunters having been raised with incomplete information about what demons are, taught a biased attitude towards them, then every demon they meet being an active threat and servant of gwi-ma

@lety@doesstuff.social Rumi was raised to hate the demon side of her and to want to purge it, but she found she could accept and embrace it through actually talking with a demon. she gets to yell at her aunt for being wrong to hate her demon side i also don't know to what degree the heroes have a sacred mandate and to what extent the source of their magic is meant to be inherently good, especially since rumi's aunt leaves the film in a pretty bad light

We're told Jinu never participated in attacking the human world before, so it seems reasonable to assume the demons that do are choosing to do violence. they steal peoples' souls. we are also lead to believe that the way people become demons is through a willingness to put themselves over others. jinu's receptiveness to gwi-ma could well be connected to his willingness to abandon his family. this is a lot of maybes, but the film isn't about the demons

@akareilly i'm not even convinced social media is bad for kids. exploitative corporate social media that constantly signal boosts the worst content, that is designed to be addictive, certainly is bad for kids. but i don't think that means we couldn't have social media spaces for kids that are moderated, largely safe and not built to exploit but where would be the profit in that?

@lety@doesstuff.social the film is pretty clear that jinu and rumi are not inherently evil and neither is beyond salvation. the golden honmoon is also never created, so the demons are unlikely to be forever imprisoned. i think the movie doesn't investigate the demon society or their issues much beyond jinu, because that's not what the film wishes to focus on. i agree this leads to some negative implications, but i don't agree that lack of focus means the morals are bad exactly

@Oyu_Fka @foone of course it's not the kids they're after, but they're getting them anyway. that's not a bad thing as far as these comapnies are concerned. it doesn't hurt them, so kids aren't beating the system, they're getting caught up in it with everyone else. they companiees don't likely care much if their systems don't age gate correctly, because they don't care about protecting kids, but getting peoples' data. that's my point

@foone i see people posting around that article about how kids are cheating age verification checks but drawing moustaches on themselves like it's a fatal flaw in the system, and it concerns me, because that's not a win. protecting children is just the excuse. what those kids are doing is putting their face on some database that's going to be used for surveillance, tracking, targetted advertizing, etc and will inevitably leak at some point
