muse's "self improvement" prompt's second point after basic memory maintenance is an instruction to, every hour, maintain a page per person that you know, and a group page for every group it thinks you're a part of. here are excerpts from the system prompt for that, cached in the agent .jsonl file

lol I went down a RAG/semantic search rabbithole one time and it was soooo cool until I realized this has existed for decades and you can just implement elastisearch. difference was this took me a couple days, not many months and thousands of dollars. https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1vd0m4w/comment/p15jssv/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=2&utm_content=share_button

ok, maybe they want to build for free while the AI labs are giving away free treats, but then they built something that they can't maintain or change once the treats are taken away. so in the end, they still just wasted a bunch of time. it's very weird.

has there ever been a time in history when a prominent figure in a successful, money-printing American capitalist enterprise stepped out into the public spotlight and said "the state needs to socialize our profits"?

no. it has never happened, and it will never happen. the reason he's calling for this now is because the AI industry doesn't have any profits, and it won't have any profits for a long time, if ever.

he's asking the state to socialize the losses.

@davidgerard@circumstances.run @theodoraward@mastodon.social I'm sorry, but Adam Conover deserves the benefit of the doubt. He's a prominent union organizer and lefty in LA. he has very good politics and has never been accused of anything. everyone likes Adam Conover. maybe he's been fooling everyone all this time, but the much more likely explanation is something else.

the problem with public policies to build tech hubs in cities like Barcelona is they don't so much create jobs as incentivize multinationals to relocate existing high-salary employees there. like tourism, this is good for the hospitality sector, but kind of a destructive dead end in most other respects.

gotta say, destroying mass surveillance devices is pretty popular right now. pretty easy way to get clout these days is post a pic of a wrecked Flock camera, for example.

a pediatric cancer hospital near us is trying to find a Spanish-Romanian translator with translation training and 2yrs of experience. this is a kind of professional that, within the decade, will not exist. it won't matter how much you're willing to pay, you won't find anyone.

it's fascinating to me how many old, powerful people are rushing to doom the thing they are in charge of by squeezing extra lucre out of it now. the boomer generation doesn't believe in the future. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup-boycott-uefa-emergency-meeting-news-b3024441.html

the thing about the vibesession/Charts Guys/economic data discourse is that the kind of insecurity people feel in the US isn't going to show up on a chart. you can be making comfortable six figures, own a home, and have some savings and still know that college for your kids is the Hunger Games, you'll never be able to save enough for retirement, you can lose your job at any second, and bad medical news will bankrupt you.
