So there seems to be a presumption that "the system" treated her claim fairly and simply decided there wasn't enough to prosecute. I'm not sure that's a reasonable assumption. At all. We have ample evidence of people getting away with rape and never being held accountable (see: current POTUS, several SCOTUS appointees, SecDef, etc etc).

For those who don't speak Kannada (probably the majority of y'all reading this), this song attacks the notion of casteism, explicitly saying that whatever caste you are, whatever your station in society, we all are the same after death. It's such a necessary message with the prevalence of casteism even today.

@zzt And no, I'm not missing the point. The point is that anyone who uses systemd-userdbd is affected, so the solution is to make it an optional bit of systemd (which Debian already does). Additionally, that bug was fixed, so users _can_ disable systemd-userdbd.{service,socket} now. I don't like this bullshit for sure, though. I just feel like being accurate matters here, and so much of what you're saying is wrong or at best misleading.

Those are the default settings in my browser (I setup Fennec F-Droid that way using uBlock Origin), so figured it might be helpful to mention it, that's all :) I honestly can't stand navigating the "modern" web without a content blocker (and often without disabling scripts and 3rd-party connections as well). It's *such* a mess and so many people have become accustomed to it.

@RnDanger My general take on the situation is this: I'm not happy that systemd is complying in advance. That is stupid and we should fight this crap. The _reason_ they introduced it is actually far more worrying (they're talking about *consumers* of that field being stuff like flatpak) and IMO is where the discussion should be focused because those components are far more integrated into general user-facing systems. 3/?

We can, at least for the time being, avoid systemd-userdbd. Avoiding portals, though, is way more complicated. That specific MR seems to have been closed (https://github.com/flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal/pull/1922) but IDK if they're going to try again. The other one is still open (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/accountsservice/accountsservice/-/merge_requests/176)

@MCDuncanLab I use version control (git), even for documents that are never uploaded anywhere else (I use it to track my edits while writing a paper, for example). A side-effect is that I'm (relatively) ruthless in deleting text --- I can always recover it with git after all :) I had like 4 versions of my CV a while back and consolidated it into 1 version tracked by git.

@RnDanger Like, the problem with systemd introducing this isn't the place they introduced it, but rather their rationale for doing so (and not just preemptive compliance). It is just wrong to say that userdbd is some integral system component (it is *not*), but it's a reasonable worry that it might soon *become* something integral. That worry is tied to the steps other components (such as flatpak!) have been taking in this direction, which IMO is far more worrying. 4/4

@LeafyEricScott@hachyderm.io I'm not sure about R (haven't used it in a _long_ time), but in Haskell I'd create a datatype for the row (Row Double String (Maybe Bool)) and create a parser that splits based on ',' (or whatever delimiter) and reads in each field. As might have been apparent, we allow for the third field in the data type to be `Nothing` or `Just `, and an Integer can be parsed as a Double, so no problem there either.
