What's an easy to use, preferably open source email program.

My father just turned 77, and only answers enails days later, even though I know he watches Youtube every day. My guess is that email has become too cumbersome.

I installed Thunderbird for him years ago, but he quickly went back to the Gmail web interface because that was easier, so I'm clearly looking for something much easier than both.

(He's on Windows, but with the amount of trouble Windows these days cause even seasoned power users, we might have to change that some day).

@robpumphrey@mastodonapp.uk Some drivers see nothing.

There was an idiot over here a few years ago, who made a right turn onto a larger road, without yielding to the approaching bike.

  1. The bike was a motorbike.
  2. The rider was wearing a high vis vest.
  3. As soon as the car pulled in front of him, the motorcyclist turned on his flashing blue lights.

How blind do you have to be to not realize you are bringing yourself into that situation?

Trains in Denmark have been unreliable for a month. The highest I've seen myself is 2½ hour delay, but also replacement busses, trains that return after reaching Padborg, rather than continuing to Germany, trains that never show up... The chaos was supposed to end last sunday (two days ago), but that is of course also delayed.

@rebane2001@infosec.exchange What does offline and service workers have to do with each other? When I turned my mobile game into a web app, I didn't have any need for service workers. Also, if they were limited to web apps, I might not have as big a problem with them. All I've seen them used for, and what all documentation I've seen has all been about tracking users when they don't have your website open, running code in the background (i.e. bitcoin miners) and generating spam "notifications".

@weddige@gruene.social @ecosia@mastodon.social @Qwant@mastodon.social I have no problems with allowing the user to pick a specific region (I personally always used site:.dk for that purpose), the problems I'm talking about are 1. Non-consensual use of location and/or IP address, and 2. doing region-based search without the user asking for it. Inferring the region from the IP address breaks both. If what you are telling me is true, both explains why Ecosia and Qwant give so bad search results, and why I should block both of them for privacy/consent reasons.

The only pages I want to see without an internet connection is static pages, because they don't get stale.

@pluralistic@mamot.fr You are promoting their propaganda. No, they are not required to get your consent. They just aren't allowed to do anything with your data you didn't consent to. The former tries to imply that the user is required to give consent, while the latter makes it clear that not grabbing the users data is always an option. And yes, I've seen plenty of cookie popups and emails where the former wording was used to insist that the user must consent.

The latter is already on the way to get rid of their "don't be evil" slogan.
