ICYMI, our bargaining unit exercised our collective power to walk out on a one-day strike last month, as we fight for a fair contract.

1/ Management at @ProPublica@newsie.social is refusing to agree to fair contract language around artificial intelligence usage, so NewsGuild President Jon Schleuss wrote to them today to urge them to get on the right side of history.

Yesterday, 92% of us voted YES (w/ 99% participation) to authorize a strike if @ProPublica@newsie.social management refuses to compromise on core issues.

We need a fair contract that will protect the in-depth investigative reporting that our readers expect.

Today, we wrote to @ProPublica@newsie.social’s board of directors to inform them that our unit overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike and urge them to instruct management to agree to a fair contract now.

ProPublica’s board and senior management hide when asked to engage with bargaining. The board meets today, but they won’t meet with us.

We will make our voices unavoidable until they agree to a fair contract, so, today, we welcomed folks to our office with flyers about our fight.

Two weeks ago, we walked out of @ProPublica@newsie.social’s offices for a one-day strike to demand a fair contract. We haven’t gotten ANY proposals from management since then. 1/ After 28 months of bargaining our first contract, @ProPublica@newsie.social management continues to take unacceptable positions on the issue of artificial intelligence.

1/ Today, we filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board over @ProPublica@newsie.social management’s unilateral implementation of an AI policy without first bargaining with our union. Of note, the policy provides no job protections to our members.

Yesterday, our members chanted and marched through @ProPublica@newsie.social’s NYC office demanding a fair contract now. We delivered a stack of more than 4,000 petition signatures and 300 comments from our supporters to management.
