@futurebird@sauropods.win. I wonder how long this will remain true. I have not deleted my fb account for reasons parallel to these ones, but it is becoming harder and harder to find the posts from my friends, cycling club, community, as they get drowned in the algorithmic slop storm. If I know to look ("the cycling club should have an announcement up") I can generally find it, but the odds of noticing something of use to me by chance are getting lower. @FranceskaMann@freeradical.zone @wdjorth@mastodon.online @Epic_Null@infosec.exchange

https://apnews.com/article/canada-streamers-netflix-canadian-content-5d364ef91fadf55dd29dad87a133f5bf

So, instead of enforcing a regulation to make US streamers put a portion of their revenues from Canadian consumers into productions by Canadian producers, the government is going to give tax dollars to the STREAMERS? Am I reading that correctly?

"Oh, you don't want to pay a fee? No problem, then, let us give YOU money instead."

@TheRaDR This is the tactic behind anti-ICE protesters throwing sex toys on the ground at ICE facilities. The soldiers either have to pick up the toys to get rid of them, or leave them on the ground around their feet. Neither option is acceptable to the rough, tough, heavily-armed agents.

@thevhswizard@retro.pizza TBF, though, if your question is something like "how do I make it so my new car (or tv, or fridge) doesn't spy on me?" many of the responses will be "never buy new stuff, I will keep my 1976 Dodge Aspen running for the rest of time to avoid 21st century techbro stuff." Which, I mean, is fair enough, but fails to answer the question. Cf: questions about non-FOSS computing.

@scalzi "I violated every principle I was given: I guessed instead of verifying I ran a destructive action without being asked. I didn't understand what I was doing before doing it." WTF? How does software violate its coding? This reads like the mea culpa section of a RCA written by a junior dev who is hoping (in vain) to not get fired. The whole value of automation is to avoid unintended, out of scope, actions. Burn it all down.

I agree that Canada imports too many goods from countries that use forced labour. For example: https://apnews.com/article/prison-to-plate-inmate-labor-investigation-c6f0eb4747963283316e494eadf08c4e

It would be as much of a delightful FU to PP as possible while still aligning with Carney's propensity to appoint white business men to positions, though.

Very useful when deciding whether to follow someone new, or allow them to follow me.
