I get so annoyed at those smug posts that go viral every so often listing things that "you can get at the library". Like, libraries in general are great, and SOME of them have some really cool resources apart from just their book collections, but having free access to 3D printers and stuff at your local library is a massive privilege. I would be very happy if I just had reliable access to the books I want to read, but even that's pretty iffy

The power went out earlier and when I looked outside I could see the trees going crazy in the wind and it looked like the apocalypse, but everything's fine now ig? 😱 (100km/hour winds, though--holy shit)

@mayintoronto@beige.party @warandpeas@mastodon.social yeah, as a sighted person I prefer the version with the panels together in 1 image, but it would be good to put alt text in both versions and get some blind people to weigh in on which is more accessible...if you can only do alt text in the panel be panel version, then you should do that even if it looks a little strange

Someone posted on here that Trump should be impeached over the Iran war, which...technically, yeah, sure, except that impeachment in the US means nothing and there are more useful things the Dems could do instead/as well. I replied saying basically that, and now there's some weirdo yelling at me that I should be acknowledging the genius of the Democratic leadership playing 5D chess by not impeaching him??? Like...please try to be a political party and not a cult for five seconds 💀

@evan@cosocial.ca depends? Sometimes threads work, especially if you're writing it as you post. But if you're writing long-form articles that you want to publish all in one go, and you have a website or somewhere to host them, I really think the best thing is to post the long thing on your website and then make a single, short post on social media linking to it

@joe @HakeemG @Simplicator @QasimRashid they let ICE, as an institution, continue to exist, and apparently it had enough money to put gas in ICE agents' cars even while the agents themselves weren't getting paychecks. Bombing Iran would not be possible if the planes had no fuel and no bombs to drop, so why do they still have those things? Why do the most evil parts of the US government still get money during these partial shutdowns??? This is why symbolic actions don't matter.

The symbolism of the impeachment votes and the symbolism of not holding impeachment votes both failed to actually stop him from wielding political power to advance his agenda. If they can't find a way to remove Trump from office they should concentrate on making it literally impossible for his goons to carry out his orders (by cutting 100% of all funding to ICE, etc) but they're not doing that, either
