A question for my fellow #Fediverse denizens, sparked by a post from @veronica@explains.social - I'm curious how much overlap there is between Fediverse/Mastodon users and the middle-old internet culture, the sort of things from the late 2000s thru the early 2010s.
If you are an active, committed, "Fediverse is my main/only social media account" sort of person... which of these did you have - and actively use - back in the day?
And to be clear, I'm not looking for casual users on either end of the scale - I'm looking for hardcore, this-is-my-passion types. People who moderated, who maintained multiple livejournals for specific fandoms, people who spent hours agnoizing over which midi files to play when people opened your web page.

I have no way to play it, and having had already played it in the past it is an absolutely terrible game. But as a lifelong Transformers fan, I could not pass up the opportunity to buy my very own copy of... Mystery of Convoy
The day after The Late Show ended, Colbert hosted an hour of community tv for a tv station he also guested on a decade ago
This is killing me. I am getting a new phone and discovered this case which scratches all the itches of my transparent neon plastic tech peak 90s brain...
...but it only fits the model of my phone up to 6, and I am getting a 7
Tattoo update - wrap came off today. I will be scrubbing and lotion-in in a few minutes, but wanted to get a fresh clean picture of it before I do.
A couple of years ago, I got a really good Nintendo Switch game card case thing from AliExpress. I'd had a couple before that were... eh, they were ok, but this one felt fantastic, it was sturdy with strong magnets, the outside was pleasantly textured, the inner lining was silicone. It was great, so much so that I bought a couple more last year.
Now, I find myself in need of additional pylons, er I mean game cases (I am doing the incredibly sane and rational thing of splitting my games up by genre) and was saddened to discover the company that was selling the cases I liked is no longer selling them.
Also, and I did not buy these because they were far too rich for my blood, but the guy I got my cursed Transformers game from also had a bunch of others.

Reading through the list of inductees is very, very interesting.
Nintendo Switch Game Case Audition Update:
Case 1 arrived, the black swirl case, as seen here - @thevhswizard@retro.pizza
It is very... mid.
The insert is nice, it's a firm silicone and not foam, it's glued in well and doesn't want to pull free - so far, so good.
The case itself is hard and sturdy, but it doesn't feel as heavy which (to me) indicates that it's a little on the cheap side.
Also, the edges of the case are very nearly at right angles, while the cases I really liked had a much more rounded corner, which they could probably afford design-wise due to the thicker plastic.
So... all in all, a perfectly serviceable case, and I am going to keep it because there's nothing WRONG with it, it's just not how I like them.
The next case to deliver is the orange and purple eyesore tomorrow, will update then.
I did a bunch of yardwork yesterday, pressure washing the outside of our house and cutting back a bunch of bushes.
Today, I am back at work, and my right arm is incredibly sore... and worse than that, my right hand is completely numb.
This is the nerve damage problem I have that also stops me from drawing... only today it's like 1000% worse
I've been thinking about it, and I think that one of the reasons that the US is as fucked up as it is is because, at the end of the Civil War, we just let all those soldiers who had fought against us, against the ideals of the US and against the idea that black people were even people... we just let them all go home.
And I know why - because the country would have collapsed without them, because it was a good chunk of our population and in order to survive, we needed them back at their jobs making food and whatever.
And also, I know that a lot of them didn't even know what they were doing, really, they were just kids, they were just following orders, etc... but there were also those who were full-throated, completely bought in, absolute Confederate Patriots who were proud of what they did and were treated as heroes when they returned.
New fresh screenshot from my #Hytale Mega-Build I've been working on for... months now?
I am hollowing out a gigantic iceberg and building a self-sustained city underneath it. So far I have dug out and built 3 floors, and am starting on the fourth. This is all on a server, and is being done by hand - no Creative, no mod tools.
I have killed ~13 Adamantine pickaxes so far (repaired until they have about 80 durability and then recycled)
Update - I found one on AliExpress that says it's available in Z Flip 7, and have ordered it.
I will have to try and de-logo-ify it with acetate, because it's got a not-legally-distinct-enough bootleg Toy Story logo on it...
I know they didn't want to use images that had a Copyright for the cover here, but it's a bold choice to decide to go with images that somehow had a Copywrong instead.
Last year, a few days after April 1st*, one of the Youtube channels I deeply love (Quinton Reviews) dropped a 40+ hour video... of his father... doing an in-depth deep dive into The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction (and eventually Green Acres, but he hasn't gotten there yet)
The video is great - a little unhinged, and it gets lost in the weeds a few times (especially around hour 20) when his father gets trapped in a recursive loop of "intermissions" to talk about Henningverse-related media like comics, toys, props, etc.
I watched the whole thing a couple of times over last year, and I think I may be starting a yearly practice where I re-watch the entire whole massive video every year starting in April and going as long as it takes to finish it.

*It was *supposed* to be an April Fools prank, but the video is so massive it took days to upload.
It really bugs me when I find out that they made modern ports/remasters/remakes of a thing, and didn't bother to make it in English.
Been going down a big Dragon Quest rabbithole recently (thanks to getting my hands on the VII Reimagining) and that led me to discover that Japan got a game called "Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland Retro" for the Nintendo Switch, which is just a modern upgrade to the old GBC game.
Specifically, it's a port of the original Dragon Quest Monsters game, which came out in the year 2000, and was released for the GBC in Japan AND The west, with US and Europe releases (in ENGLISH).
The game has been re-released 5 times since then - mobile phones, PS1, 3DS, iPhone and Android - with the Nintendo Switch port being the sixth. None of them with English localization, even when the game itself is functionally identical to the 2000 original release
I am realizing now, with their intricate character designs, how hard it must be for any characters from Jojo's Bizarre Adventures to get through a metal detector.
Twenty solid minutes of taking off hoops, bangles, bracelets, necklaces, and weird piercings, but they're still setting off the detector each time because the forgot that they had like 12 knives worth of shrapnel in their bodies from various Stand battles
Is my long-form ranting and complaining at an autistic level about weird bootleg third party Nintendo Switch game cases... entertaining to you? Do you like it? Should I do things like this more, or less?
Gotta love it when UPS quietly moves the goalpoasts. Been waiting for a delivery all day, and the website had it:
From 9:00 to 12:00
From 11:44 to 2:45
and now... by 9:00 PM
My Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 arrives today, and I have mixed feelings.
On one hand, as someone who lived through all the different "feature phone" eras, I have grown increasingly tired of the endless series of monolithic black slab phones.
So, because of that, I am excited to try out the foldable gimmick thing, because I am a sucker for things like that. My last LG was the V60 with the second screen, and even that was basically two black slabs stuck together. I have been watching and waiting until they made one of the foldables with a robust enough to use without immediately snapping it in half, and I'm really hoping we're here.
On the other hand, I detest bloatware, and jumping from a Pixel to a Samsung phone is going to be immersing myself in a sea of apps I do not want but cannot uninstall (looking at you, fuckin' Bixby).
I have found a problem with the water in #Hytale that's causing me some consternation.
I am building a gigantic mega-base thing, and was planning on having the fourth floor be completely submerged, like you're inside an aquarium.
In order to fill those spaces with water, I was planning on using the tried-and-true Minecraft method of filling in a space with water - you dig down one layer, fill that first flat layer with a water "source block", and then all the blocks you break underneath it are ALSO filled with water, because water flows down from a source block.
RE: @campuscodi@mastodon.social
The article is really neat, but I'm 100% sharing this because the artwork they used for it looks enough like the Agender flag that I might possibly steal it
