It’s a while since I have done some knitting. Here’s an elf knitted with donated wool from my aunt. I am going to do some more and put them into the woodland coffee morning in the spring.

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social A4 one of the best jobs I ever had was at the University of Stirling where I worked as a chaplain. I had a sewing group called Patches4Peace and I taught mending, sewing and transformation of garments. They were such lovely students and it was a fun group. #MakersHour

It’s that time again! If you haven’t heard Dundee-born Elsie MacDonald, you should! Go ahead and give an emerging alt-folk singer-songwriter a try. Elsie is well known in the Edinburgh scene and beyond for their emotionally impactful performance style, creating intimacy with audiences in shared spaces. Shamelessly posting as her proud mum!! #BandcampFriday#Folk #QueerPunk #Music https://elsiemacdonald.bandcamp.com/album/pulling-at-the-common-thread

Trying to measure tiny hinges and choose hardware for the sideboard when OH bursts into my craft room in excitement with ‘Duckett’s out for a duck, first ball!!’ Not conducive to concentration but it’s ok, we can watch the highlights together later. I have yesterday’s to see as well. #miniatures #cricket

Last train of the holiday, over an hour late now. While waiting, I spotted an odd message in Haymarket which said ‘Dundee Railway Station is out of order’. I puzzled over this for quite some time but then caught it scrolling through the information. Eventually I saw the screen before which said, ‘The up-escalator in’

Can’t go to a gig without getting a new t-shirt. This is an original design by Kankawa Nagarra the artist I saw on Wednesday night. It’s a journey from the tea-chest which she made into a guitar when she was young to her blues music today. She describes herself as ‘born in sand and washed in fire’. #Blues #Australia #KankawaNagarra

Completely forgot #MakersHour last night and had meant to share that I blocked my mini knitting (the silk one is now cast off but not blocked yet). The blue Lacey one is a shawl pattern but it has come out a bit big - the two tone garter is the size of a one twelfth scale double bedspread. Sewing scissors for scale. #knitting #DollsHouse #No52

Good news!!! We have four swallows on the wire this morning. Our mating pair, last year’s young who has been helping all summer and one little fledging who made it through the dry weather!! The first two fledgings vanished in the drought and this survivor was the strongest of three in the next clutch. It’s a fragile achievement but bloody hell does it make me happy! #ClimateDiary #Swallows #BirdCallOut

@MakersHour@cupoftea.social We have guests Tonight so missing #MakersHour but I wanted to share my dress maker’s dummies project in 1/12 scale. I made them in two halves, baking the front first then adding the back and baking it all again. Now I plan to cover them in fabric. I am going to turn a base for each on the lathe so just using lolly sticks stuck in Fimo for now. #DollsHouse #Miniatures

@iamdavidobrien@mastodon.social @kathimmel@mstdn.social Ok, David, this is not cool - these are human lives and hard events to live through and it is not difficult to understand. This is the deal: a person’s partner’s dad owned a parrot, sadly the dad passed away. The partner (who has now been looking after his late father’s parrot for some years) is being evicted. The parrot needs a temporary home. These people need empathy.

Nearly finished work for the week - have a couple of admin tasks which I can complete here and then I am done. BUT on arriving home I realised the rattle I heard when I got out the van was not a random bit of rubbish on the tarmac but the lid of my *new* water bottle. So, now, I have to go back. 😭 #ADHD #weekend

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org It’s crazy reading from my perspective… ‘the current administration is trying to speed up reviews’ and then it says litigation is slowing up the process- as if the only things keeping us from harvesting lots of healthy timber are lawyers and scientists, when in fact, climate change is driving burning and the environment can’t cope with the temperature rise.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org @ColesStreetPothole@weatherishappening.network If I can gatecrash the album party (with a cheap bottle of Hungarian red wine and an overwhelming desire to bore the people in the party-kitchen) then I would add that the best albums are designed as albums. If it’s just a music producer stuffing the tracks together with a boppy one, a sad one, then a banger there’s little merit in listening to the whole album. But if it’s a joyous ‘concept album’ or even just a well done singer songwriter album that’s a different world. A few I love but can only listen to all the way through are Talking Heads, ‘Fear of Music’ and Marillion ‘Script for a Jester’s Tear’ and ‘Misplaced Childhood’ Runrig, ‘The Cutter and the Clan’ I would also put U2 ‘October’ and ‘War’ up there and then more modern ones too - I do like Snow Patrol, ‘Wildness’ is also an amazing concept album on recovery from alcoholism. Coldplay also made concept albums but in a more modern take… I think when the artist drives the concept, the album comes into its own.

4/3 (oops) The cause of this drought is a high pressure system sitting mid-Atlantic which is being caught between southern weather patterns pushing north and northern ice melt/higher temperatures pushing northern weather fronts south. This high is storing heat out at sea and evaporating sea water which currently has nowhere to go. While we are all needing rain, the likely outcome of a summer weather pattern like this is storms- and storms which have been powered by a continuous high pressure ‘battery’ or energy store for weeks. This is so very far from the normal tracking of weekly changeable weather across the Atlantic to the Western Seaboard of the UK it is hard to imagine or prepare for - there’s certainly a lot of unpredictability in it - but in basic terms we are likely to be in for a wild autumn after such a hot summer. #ClimateChange #Weather #UK

@tempusfelix@wehavecookies.social It’s a balance for me of trying my best without letting that become soul-destroying. I can’t say I always manage. We’re excluded from hose pipe bans because we keep waterfowl but we are trying very hard to keep watering to an absolute minimum. One thing I could try next winter is to install more water butts - we only have 2 and one leaks - both are pretty much empty now.

It is a different sort of consideration and the costs quickly rise when scaling a domestic system up. This is the exciting journey ahead of you!!

@LonM@social.vivaldi.net My guess is poor procurement. They didn’t spend enough time and resources on what they needed and how to achieve it. The dizzying fact is that the reason they ditched the previous app was also poor procurement because they didn’t factor in any legacy procedures at the beginning. 🤦‍♀️ Learning from the past seems to be in short supply!

@IcooIey@mastodon.green @tempusfelix@wehavecookies.social It comes hard to pay out money for something that was always free and plentiful. I have been gardening for over thirty years now and only in the last five have I given any thought at all to watering anything that grows in the ground outside. This year it has rapidly become a crisis. Watering was a job easily done by watering cans and confined to pots and greenhouse/polytunnel. Hey ho.
