This is Caerlaverock Castle, near Dumfries - notable for being the only triangular castle in the UK. The earliest parts of the building date to the C13th. In earlier times, the Cumbrian king Gwenddoleu ap Ceidio died at the Battle of Arthuret, in 573, in a fight over Caer-Laverock. This drove his bard, Myrddin Wyllt, insane and he run off into the woods, an act that possibly inspired the character of Merlin in Arthurian legend. #Photography #History #Myth #Scotland #Architecture

Provan Hall, dating back in part to the 1460s and built as a base for the Prebendary of Barlanark, before renovation. This little-known gem stands in Auchinlea Park, on the west side of Glasgow's Easterhouse and close to the M8 motorway. A distant view of mighty Duart Castle, standing guard over the entrance to the Sound of Mull from its location at the eastern tip of the Isle of Mull. Hey all. @bermudianbrit@mastodon.online and I have been considering a trip outside of England but inside the UK for some time now, but we're not sure where to go and whats worth seeing. I'm also somewhat partial to a bed and breakfast or similar as somewhere to stay, because I love a little personal touch. :) But equally the world is replete with many such places and I know very few people with personal experience. If you have been outside of England and thought there were things worth seeing and experiencing, pile them on me. We are music people, and we really enjoy history and food, and sometimes we can be convinced to drink the same alcohol. I really like nature, but what I'm used to I don't think is going to be as easily findable in these here parts. Any thoughts or suggestions, preferably personally experienced, or experienced by those you are close to, would be much appreciated. #Travel #Blind #UnitedKingdom #UK #Scotland #Wales #Belfast
