@azonenberg Split off the side chain to yield tobleral, reduce the carboxyl of that to yield toblerol, or oxidise the hydrogen to yield tobleroic acid, react two equivalents of toblerol under dehydrating conditions to form ditobleryl ether...

@angst_ridden@turtleisland.social @thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io tbh that could be deployed in areas where for example due to a lack of water afforestation is not possible
after all, photosynthesis, with a net equation of n H2O+n CO2->(CH2O)n+n O2, consumes a tonne and a third of water for each tonne of carbon fixed, plus more that is lost through evapotranspiration

@typhlosion@denden.world I say they are different
Hats usually simply sit atop the head
A helmet is generally positively affixed in some fashion, usually via a chin strap
A hat usually covers just the top of the head, while a helmet generally covers at least the back of the head, and often the sides and face as well
A hat's purpose is fashion and protection from weather, while a helmet's purpose is protection from impact, projectiles or other physical threats

@Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange security and feature updates should be separate as far as is practical
except where a feature strictly depends on another feature every feature should be selectable separately

@KayOhtie @Li @fizzyizzy05 @0x4d6165 I would go one further and say that every website should allow at least full BBcode formatting in post text, which would also allow setting fonts different from the browser/OS default font, if not even full custom CSS for posts like cohost had.

@Li @fizzyizzy05 @0x4d6165 Alternatively, screen readers could just be better about it, recognise when special characters are arranged in a way that makes a word, and parse that as a word rather than reading out the character names

@KayOhtie @Li @fizzyizzy05 @0x4d6165 I think they should, without regard to content or intent, parse anything that a reasonable sighted reader would parse as being intended as funky-looking latin text as latin text. The one that would I think be the hardest one to parse correctly is "faux cyrillic" since there there would be some overlap between that and misspelled real cyrillic, and so ambiguity which to parse it as.
