angst-ridden wanderer
mastodon 4.7.3Born/raised on traditional Chumash / Tongva / Kizh land, and now I spend my summers on Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabeg land. I feel there's a lot more to allyship than just reciting land acknowledgements, so I'm here to learn and hopefully act.
When depressed, I post nature pictures to cheer myself up.

Hummingbird in front of nearly full moon.
A gentle rain of petals
Throwback to March of 2001, when hummingbirds nested in the rosebush out front. Photo taken with a Coolpix D950 which I had taped to a broom handle and held up from a distance.
Magnolia trees at the Jardin Botanique are just getting to peak bloom. Depending on the rain, next week will probably be the pinnacle.
Barred owls.
Super-high-ISO, 300mm handheld at twilight. It's a miracle of technology that there's any image here at all!
Grumpy to be awake.
Fighting or flirting?
Sorry to be all hummingbird pictures all the time, but they're a fun challenge to photograph. Mute me for a few days, and I'll probably be back to other subjects.
New neighborhood has Peruvian, Mexican, Cuban, Algerian, and Vietnamese restaurants, all on the same block! I ordered last night’s dinner (Cuban-style onion pizza) in broken French, Spanish, and English.
New carved eraser stamp: Trillium.
Download it for your projects as a png, svg, dxf, or eps file.

Circumstances have kept me indoors for a few days. Stepped out briefly today, only to encounter a boulangerie burglar.
Climate weirdness… grapes and wisteria together.
Young orange-crowned warbler is feeling a bit peckish.
I was in a real crunch, and I was weak. I used AI to generate the documentation for an API I'd just written. And I was pressed for time, so I only looked over it briefly before sending it out.
Now I get to implement all the endpoints and parameters it "hallucinated."
Time saved on documentation: 1~2 hours.
Time lost to implementing and testing spurious features: 4~6 hours.
Memorial from Red Dress Day (May 5th) at the botanical garden, inspired by Jaime Black’s "REDress Project."
Here's a phrase probably never before committed to paper or keyboard: "weird, I must have Berenstain Bear-ed d'Iberville."
Somehow, I was certain the Montreal street, metro station, and the eponymous French colonist/soldier/merchant were all "d'Ilberville".
They told me it was going to be a cat scan, but they lied. It was a big noisy machine! No cats, not even a kitten 😾
Just witnessed an absolute legend - she got on the metro at Jean-Talon with two loaves of sliced bread, sat down, put on a pair of dark sunglasses, and consumed both loaves before we even got to Laurier.
A European Starling just few into the office’s plate-glass window at full speed, chased by a crow. The crow was approaching the inert bird, and I went out and scared it off. After about 15 minutes, the starling recovered enough to fly away. I’m not sure what was going on. Was the crow intentionally chasing the starling into the building as a means of predation? The windows are tinted, and look very solid from outside (not reflecting the sky).
Problem: sink leaks
Solution: replace 5¢ washer
Problem: nobody sells replacement washer, even online
Solution: buy $13 replacement cartridge at old-school plumbing supply store (or buy it at big box for $22)
Problem: that’s still a fucking waste
Solution: ?
Well, it looks like it’s attack season on the servers. So much for getting a decent night’s sleep.
Any Quebecers have opinions on where to take a weekend getaway in Estrie?Thoughts on Sutton or Au Diable Vert? Any other recommendations?
