I was recently diagnosed with cancer. TL;DR: I’m doing well and treatment is working. I’m much luckier than many. I’ve decided to share the way that cycling and public transit have become such an important part of my cancer journey and the overwhelmingly positive impact they’ve had on my mental and physical well-being. My hope is that it can show other recently diagnosed people that there can be hope, though I recognize that we are all are on our own different journeys. #Brompton #Transit 1/3

There are seven GO lines altogether, so I should be able to have some fun 😀🚴‍♀️🚂❤️ #BikeNite

RE: https://social.notjustbikes.com/@notjustbikes/116930425123854885 I’ve come to *love* Jason Slaughter’s take-no-prisoners approach to advocating for cities that are human-focused rather than car-focused. This video of his is yet another that shows what can happen when caring about people is a priority. #Urbanism

This weekend it’s the Ribfest & Craft Beer show at Victoria Park in Kitchener. Did you know that the City of Kitchener is running their Bikecheck valet service? You can park your bike there, knowing that it will be safe and supervised the whole time. Even better, our free @CyclingGuide@cosocial.ca mobile app can route you directly to the Bikecheck facility! 😀🍻🚴🏼‍♀️❤️ #WaterlooRegion #BikeTooter #CraftBeer https://kitchenerribandbeerfest.com

I followed up today with a trip to a farm market. It ended up being a great shakedown ride, as I went on some unruly gravel roads and paths. Plus, towards the end the battery ran out! I need to pay more attention to that 🤣 But the trip validated my choice of a Brompton G Line over a C Line, as it easily handled all terrain. The gearing range across the four gears meant I handled the powerless end of the ride just fine. And plenty of fresh produce in the milk crate 😀🍓🫐🍎🚴‍♀️❤️ #BikeTooter #Brompton

A business could approach one in their area and ask for guidance. Big benefit is that their local expertise about what people need would be helpful. And they may even get the word out about the business.

But average drive time on the rural highway went up because it went up for some drivers. I’ve experienced this!

Relatedly: “Canada is warming much faster than the global average. The country is warming at twice the global rate, while the Canadian Arctic is warming at nearly four times the global rate, raising concerns around thawing permafrost in northern regions. That could expose carbon-rich soils, which may release carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere — greenhouse gases that would speed planetary warming.” — Inayat Singh, CBC News #CanPoli #ClimateCrisis https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/wildfire-climate-emissions-smoke-9.7274862

Smoky skies in Toronto have led to new scrutiny of government efforts to fight fires and manage forests. But scientists say the realistic way to tackle the smoke is fighting climate change itself.
