A8. Dog on a bike. Spotted in downtown Minneapolis. @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite #Minneapolis #BikeTooter

I want to bike on Lake, But a full lane I must take. Car fumes make my lungs ache. Build a bike lane, for everyone's sake! #BikeTooter #Minneapolis

@djuber@fosstodon.org absentee owner 2 continents owner Heh, drivers can't see cyclists that are right in front of their face. Two continents over, two towns over, or two feet over - all appears to be the same. Having worn my helmet into many local shops, it does sting a bit when those shop owners testify at city council meetings that "nobody ever comes by bike." I didn't realize the helmet doubled as an invisibility cloak! @Amgine@mamot.fr @ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social

🧵 Photos from Alex Pretti Memorial Bike Ride Alex was a cyclist who attended several group rides with Angry Catfish bike shop in Minneapolis. He was murdered by ICE on January 24th, 2026. This ride celebrates his memory. Today's temperature was a high of 18F, but that didn't stop what I estimate to be thousands of cyclists from participating in a multi-hour bike ride through south Minneapolis. #Minneapolis #BikeTooter

@ascentale@sfba.social @bobjonkman@mastodon.sdf.org @bikenite@fedigroups.social BikeMN has a similar crash checklist: https://www.bikemn.org/mn-bicycling-handbook/what-if-theres-a-crash/ The reminder to avoid declaring that you are "ok" is important. You may not know the extent of your injuries until later, and stating that you are ok could be used against you later.

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social How can small businesses build a clientele with diverse transportation modes? Some business owners oppose bike lanes, bus lanes, and street safety improvements; some claim that the loss of parking will be fatal for their business, despite studies showing that business activity generally increases after such projects. Given that urban street design philosophy in many US cities is finally prioritizing safety and multimodal transportation, what can businesses do to prepare for that future? #BikeNitePQ

Biking down Lake Street. Cars hoking as I pass them on my bike. I'm sorry your couch-on-wheels is so uncomfortable. Maybe choose a more sensible vehicle for urban transportation next time? k thx. #Minneapolis

@gneilyo@mastodon.online @QasimRashid@mastodon.social We could tax unrealized gains. It's been proposed before, as recently as: The Harris campaign's tax plan, and the Biden-Harris 2025 budget.

@moz@fosstodon.org Cars are always honking about something. I assume it's about their love of bikes? They honk when I pass them on my bike... which I assume is them expressing their desire to be on a bike. They honk when they are stuck in traffic... which wouldn't exist if they were on a bike. They honk when other drivers do something dangerous... which would be far less dangerous if they were on bikes.

Happy Pride! #Minneapolis

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social Having watched a number of videos about track stands, this is the one I recommend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnPtVWx5pd0 This video clearly covers coordinating your brake with shifting your weight, which other videos gloss over, or omit entirely.

Attention drivers: Please honk if you love bikes! #BikeTooter

Of course, a minority of drivers insist on using their vehicles as weapons, trying to push their way through. 🧵 3/?

Onlookers were largely supportive. Many people on the sidewalks reached out to give high-fives, wave, or cheer on the group. 🧵 2/?

The group was young. I estimate that most participants were in their early twenties. But there were also adults riding scooters with their young children. The group was racially diverse, and very welcoming. Many riders were waving encouraging cyclists on cross-streets to join in the fun.

I spoke with several participants. While the group didn't even agree on the name of the event, one rider indicated it was called "Lime Amigos." There was no clear leader, nor a clear indication of who organized the event, but the people I spoke with learned about it from unspecified accounts social media. A flyer found after-the-fact titled the event a "Scooter Takeover" and used hashtags #LiveLaughLime and #soberfun. When I crossed paths with this event, it was reminiscent of a Critical Mass-style bike protest, but the people I spoke with had never heard of Critical Mass, nor did they describe the event as a protest. The only theme I can discern is the clean, simple simple fun of riding through Minneapolis on bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller-blades, and even a motorcycle. 🧵 5/?

Kids on the bus joyfully singing "The Wheels on the Bus" song. This is the appropriate level of excitement for public transit, and I hope they never stop. #Minneapolis #MetroTransit

Capitalism only works when there is competition. Therefore, a capitalist must never be allowed to sell a non-fungible product.

@NNN@bettercities.top @ObbieZ@urbanists.social Richfield infrastructure is so bad it's making me into a NIMBY - as in, I'd rather not have Richfield in Minneapolis's backyard. The Nine Mile Creek Trail would be better named "I'd rather bike nine miles in the street trail." Bike Router correctly instructs you to use the road instead. It's in desperate need of raised crossings. Most of Richfield's residential areas don't even have sidewalks - which was a real shock last time I got off the bus in the area. The majority of their bike infrastructure is on county roads (i.e., provided by Hennepin County).

@NNN@bettercities.top @ObbieZ@urbanists.social Also in the armpit of two car dealerships (and a car repair shop which ominously includes "Collision" in its name). It's such a shame that REI isn't more accessible. I was considering a trip there for some bike tools they stock, but was similarly put off by this intersection.

@PapyrusBrigade@cosocial.ca It's always a good laugh to bike through downtown on a Friday evening to watch people desperately searching for parking near their venues. US Bank Stadium has an average attendance of 66,929 people. Assuming an optimistic four passengers per car, you'll need about five additional stadiums worth of surface area just for parking (to say nothing of driving lanes!). #Minneapolis

@jcarlson@mapstodon.space It turns out that if we shrink vehicles to a reasonable (ahem, bicycle) size, everyone can park by the front door! #Urbanism

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A1. Posting from Minneapolis. I can track stand for about 15 seconds; 30 seconds at best. Sometimes I see people corking intersections on group rides with a rock-solid track stand. It looks like a fun way to flex on drivers, but also seems to require a fixie.

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A raccoon has taken up residence on the Midtown Greenway in Minneapolis, and it's cute! I've spotted it about five times over the past month, generally around 9/9:30pm. Raccoon spotters would be advised to check the western 1/3 of the Greenway, if that is their desire. #Minneapolis #Raccoon
