My DWeb Camp highlight was ending up in a basement rave with @cwebber@social.coop (we managed to drag @paulbutgold@mastodon.bida.im too, even he was sleepy) and Kaia using a custom build of Mixxx on my laptop to play. Plus, Christine is now in possession of a video of me questionably sober improvising a song about the Fediverse and other things by randomly looping C and G with @adz@post.lurk.org’s guitar.

Videoconference community servers The open Jitsi Meet instances I was using for community videocalls all require a login, now. Are there any videoconferencing community servers that are still open, or where I could ask to have an account? The last thing I want to do is self-host a video conferencing software, unless it’s something simple and light. Also: has anyone been trying other software solutions beyond BigBlueButton and Jitsi Meet? Happy to test reliable alternatives you recommend. #help #videocall #videoconference #Jitsi #JitsiMeet #BBB #BigBlueButton #server

After six years only using #Contabo, I am looking for other #VPS #hosting options. I do not feel they are particularly reliable any more (maybe they have never been), and I would prefer to go for a provider with a good track record.

I have looked at websites comparing other hosting options, but of course everything is super chaotic and flashy and aaaargh

I trust folks here for advice on affordable, reliable, trustworthy European providers. I would like to add cooperative and sustainable too, but they all seem to be way more expensive and I am afraid I cannot afford them right now.

Because I am a student, I have emailed some more “progressive” hosting providers asking for discounts, but I feel a bit bad doing that.

@kaosk@mastodon.social I know of 1984, they seem super cool but 1 vCPU and 1 GB RAM for 7.60€ per month it’s still quite pricey, but maybe I would be up for that. I will think about it. Thanks for sharing!

That would be something I’d be happy to collaboratively make.

Hi @nick@bath.social! I am glad to e-meet you, I started following you after a visit at Animorph when @sirodoht@pan.rent was working there (me and Theo met at DWeb Camp 2023!) and they suggested me to follow you 😉 I am, we are, fully aware that the prices of DWeb Camp are not the most accessible. I am not directly involved in the budget, so I cannot give a full reply, but the determining factor is that the ticket of DWeb Camp is not merely for camp itself, but also for paying a part-time staff that stewards the global DWeb community over the whole year. We intend to write and publish a more detailed explainer soon. Please refer also to another reply I wrote about this: https://social.coop/@dweb/116380584779445653 @dweb@social.coop
