Surprise! Surprise! I'm planning one more #p2p lecture series in @offline@autonomous.zone this time on #Mesh Networks, routing protocols, confidential messaging in such system and how we can make this eventual consistent with broadcast sync protocols for the Walkaway Stack!
20.04.26 @ offline, #berlin
19:00

Two more p2p lectures coming up at @offline@autonomous.zone ! Starting each at 19:00
✦ 08.05.26 Mesh Networks & Encryption
We continue here from last time focusing on the cryptography in mesh networks.
✦ 09.06.26 Identity Systems
Covering some approaches in handling user identities in p2p systems, DiDs, "trust" networks, petname systems, problems around privacy and anonymity, especially in combination with immutable data types

The "Walkaway Stack" video is online now! ✨
https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/J3FLC3-walkaway-stack/
It's a VERY SHORT fragment of the series I did recently at @offline@autonomous.zone in Berlin.
Hopefully it's useful as a little intro into the p2p space and it's gnarly problems!
The "walkaway" p2p lectures have finished after five sessions and I enjoyed it soooooooooo much! 😭😍
It's been super fun to go through all of this together with everyone, people have been SO ON IT, I especially loved the discussions. Thank you everyone for coming and listening to me babbling for literally hours.
This lecture series was 95% improvised and I'm very happy how that experiment turned out. It's rough, not all super thorough and some examples could have been better picked - trying to create something out of "chaos" in a safe space without expectations, instead of a "blank paper" for the "perfect lecture" was so much more fun and productive for me. If I'd approach it the other way around, it would have taken 2 years .. now I can "refine" the outcomes step by step, carving out a shape.
I have ca. 12 hours of recorded video (mostly audio track and mad whiteboard scribbles), 20k words of notes and 100k words of STT transcription (probably half of it "uhm" and "yeah").
Need to think now what to do next with it .. It will surely involve getting more people on board to check against it, come up with proper diagrams, structure and examples. Maybe a (free) book, video series, ..? Who has an idea?
Here are the notes btw, though, not super accessible for folks who weren't present: https://pads.offline.place/p/reading-list-and-notes-p2p-lectures

Second last time! 🚨
Next p2p lecture will be this Wednesday (26.11.) 19:00 in @offline@autonomous.zone!
After talking about sync protocols and base convergent data-types we're looking now into what we can do with them to build fully featured local-first applications with access control, collaboration and more.

Kaj Duncan David and Adam Asnan re-amping my bass track on the smolest amp of all times for Kaj's new record (Raster). 😭😍
It's algorithmic, minimal music Kaj generated with some crazy Max patch. He then synthesized it with a DX7, some parts have been re-recorded by real musicians like this bass.
Woah. Our band Sun Kit plays support for Ex-Easter Island Head for two nights this spring:

Last p2p lecture is tonight (10.12.) at 19:00! 🙀
We'll continue talking about access control / permission handling and other things like key agreement / group encryption which is useful for shared nodes.
And since this is the last session I hope we also just have some time to reflect, discuss and gather more things we didn't cover so far.

Next p2p lecture will be this Friday (14.11.) 19:00 in @offline@autonomous.zone!
This time we'll go into sync protocols for eventual consistency, look into convergent data types and design CRDTs.

Okay, that little thing which bit me in the mossy grass while I was looking at a mushroom in the forest (I think it was a Paralepista flaccida) was quite serious, my hand has a 1cm spot which burns since two days.
