I finally finished my hand-drawn font! 236 glyphs 😅

@neatnik@social.lol @bw@social.lol Well, I made a bunch of custom elements for sampling, sequencing, processing, and visualizing music. https://hyperblam.how
This book, called Content Design, has nothing written on the spine 🤔
I love the Scottish not least because they're anti Tory. I struggle to reconcile this with the fact that they invented fucking GOLF.
Random slide from my upcoming talk. They're all hand-drawn. #pixelPioneers
Writing JavaScript is like eating a Nature Valley™️ bar. It's messy, lots of it crumbles away and gets wasted, and you're left feeling strangely unsatisfied. But it's hard to find the willpower to stop.
Experienced something terrifying yesterday:
A CAPTCHA asking me to identify images where the images themselves were obvious AI slop.
So... I was tasked to prove that I'm real by identifying realness in unreal images.
When you think about it, the film Jaws isn't really about sharks.
It's about one particular shark eating a bunch of people then exploding.
Revisited Pere Ubu's The Modern Dance today. I have a feeling @SteveFaulkner@mastodon.social might be a fan?
Post-punk while punk was still in its pomp. The minimalist application of synth noises is especially artful.
"Hi Heydon,
I noticed you're someone who could really benefit from smarter meeting tools."
Thank you, I feel so seen 😑
East Bay Ray basically invented Black Metal on this 1986 track. Fantastically nasty riffing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ewDZd2Heac

The font supports diacritics for all European languages and many others. Here are just the A glyphs:
Can we talk about SVG filter performance?
I knew that animating turbulence parameters in SVG itself (``) was a performance hog but it seems to go further than that. When I apply a static turbulence-based filter with CSS to an animated element, even that will make my brand new M4 Macbook Pro's fan go ballistic (!)
Remove the filter and everything is cool and quiet, even though I'm sequencing generative music using custom elements behind the animation...

Planning to support quarter tones on ``. Then it's a microtonal instrument!!
What the do you think the syntax should be for a note between `C4` and `C#4`?
`C4^` ?
`C4+` ?
`C4.5` ?
Some great replies from some very smart and helpful people in this thread.

@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com Reminds me of the time I was at an agency and refused to do work for a client engaged in proselytization. They were really put out but ultimately said "okay we'll just assign it to someone else." I don't know what happened with the account but I should have made my refusal a public announcement.

@simplebits@mastodon.social Lovely, snapped it up! Did you make it with Glyphs?
Replying to
@simplebits@mastodon.social Nice, I use that a lot. Makes applying diacritics and contextual alternated really easy too. Never thought my own handwriting could end up being multilingial.

@erin@mastodon.kvuzet.net Thank you. I'm trying to make it "pay what you want" but BuyMeACoffee is being weird.

@anarodrigues@front-end.social What a heart-rending post. I thought I knew what it was like out there, but this really made me pause. Thank you for putting it to words, and with such care.
Anyone going to #pixelPioneers in June who would be willing and able to rap over some music at approx 90bpm, on stage wirh me?

11ty docs have gone a bit weird. The tabs for "build awesome" and font awesome threw me.

@SteveFaulkner@mastodon.social I like it! Fun and down-to-earth. Great bass sound too.
Wrote this song when I was particularly pissed off at someone giving me unsolicited advice. Is there anything worse?

@vale@fedi.vale.rocks Was just thinking that, yeah! I'm using CSS custom properties and HTML to animate frequency data. HTML-in-canvas is almost the perfect use case for that, I think.
Replying to
@vale@fedi.vale.rocks Still, I was surprised just filter: url(#turbulence) on the parent element would have that much impact.
