@kigelia @mgorny that is certainly a problem that is occurring, yes. Since code generation is a primary use case, public code stores are an example of sites that are getting hit badly, which in turn is making open source less viable (alongside junk "fixes" and other noise)

@fxnn not engaging in the wider discussion here, but I'd seriously question "exponential growth" in this field. It had a single large step change, and has been very much incremental since. The improvements are linear at best, while the resources required to produce them are the only thing growing exponentially. Like, I don't think this is even a particularly sceptical view - just facts on the ground. You can maybe discuss whether linear improvements have step change impacts, but the tech itself requires exponentially increasing resources to manifest linear improvements. That's why they've started switching to working on specialised models, reasoning, meta control systems, etc. If you're relying on "we'll see continued improvements akin to Chat GPT's version 3 -> 5 trajectory", I think you'll be sorely disappointed. @alanpaxton

@elilla@transmom.love this is why it's generally not necessary to tune a snare or cymbal! (And to a lesser degree kicks and toms - those are more that they're short enough impulses to not register as overlapping with other harmonic content (unless you're getting into electronic drums and synth (but those often *are* tuned!)))

@hazelnot yeah, it wouldn't be my go-to, but to my ears it's the unique vibe of pop you get that's influenced by the Japanese flavour of 70s jazz fusion (the same influence that classic "video game music" is imitating within hardware constraints), hence the comment. My brain's actual internal categorisation is "rhythm game music" 😂

@jackemled @Purple thing is, I'm not sure they're even using it personally all that much. They've actively bought into the idea of doing the work to integrate into systems they build for clients because of The Possibilities, the New Capabilities it unlocks. And I just don't know how to reconcile people I know are otherwise smart, conscientious, environmentally considerate, etc. with what seems so clearly to me to be blatant snake oil.
