Hey @kde@floss.social with the recent birthdate field being introduced into systemd and the lead developer being obnoxiously stupid about it, Plasma desktop relying more on systemd feels wrong.
Given the circumstances, I urge you to please reconsider systemd dependency on KDE platform and if possible, please think of alternatives.
When you said X11 is getting axed from the codebase, I was ok with because Wayland has improved significantly over the years and offers more almost all the functionality from X11; systemd is different.
This post is an attempt to make my case as a (happy and satisfied) KDE Plasma user for few years so please think again about getting in bed with that project.
I am happy to bring this update for my pet project #GitRaven. It's a Git management tool built in C++ and Qt as a learning experience.
Give it a read and let me know how you like it?
Do you know what happens when you write C+++ Qt code with web dev experience? Your mental model for memory management (which is non-existent because JS has GC), leads to memory leaks.
It's so bad I had to:
-
rewrite most of the init code for member variables in almost all widgets so the expectation of "WidgetA" from "child C" of MainWindow is available when "WidgetB" emits a signal.
-
currently debugging memory leak when MainWindow is closed - huh? Yup, I have a WindowActivate event that triggers a "status" update and ALL important widgets listen to the signal emitted by THIS fn to update the state.
-
A connect() is causing seg fault right now when I update the widget's state multiple times in a row. (still haven't checked this out yet)
-
clang-tidy is labelling cosmetic things like "Class *obj = new Class();" into "auto *obj = new Class();" and my OCD is annoyed.
Found the culprit! It was the max_id parameter in /api/v1/timeline/api/v1/timelines/home endpoint.
The code inside Tokodon is as follows:
// maintimelinemodel.cpp
if (!fromId.isEmpty() && !query.hasQueryItem(QStringLiteral("max_id"))) {
// TODO: this is an *upper bound* so it always is one less than the last post we read
// is this really how it's supposed to work wrt read markers?
query.addQueryItem(QStringLiteral("max_id"), fromId);
}
This code can be searched via max_id keyword. You need to comment out the query.addQueryItem line and Tokodon will work just fine.
I think this is a BUG for the following reasons:
max_idinvalidation failure- Lack of retry logic w/o this query item when we know API response (
datavariable) is empty. - When user logged out, all such data should be deleted as well. A full logout from the app should've reset this data.
A part of me thinks this info was sent by Mastodon server as part of my account info.

This is in Manjaro Linux fully updated with #Qt 6.10
This was a fun bug to track though :)
I am not a fan of the Credits system in RE9 seen in Racoon City for Leon. That one change makes RE9 into an arcade style game and not the survival horror that I remember RE series to be. I liked the gameplay till the Care Center but now I am not into it.
Linux sleep issues are the latest “Linux audio problems” from the 2000s.
How hard is it to make sure the GPU wakes up correctly, consistently and reliably across multiple kernel versions.
This sucks!
Hey #linux #fediverse
How do you handle HDR color oversaturation problem? Red is more like dark orange. Reddit and StackOverflow logos are not recognisable anymore in HDR mode.
I have a Samsung Odessey IPS 27inch monitor. I tried reducing colors from OSD and it helped but the problem still exists.
To the beautiful person working on amdgpu drivers who managed to fix resume from sleep issues on 6.18.18 release, I love you!!
Its been a day since I ran this version on my PC and I still haven’t run into the black screen issue.
I am still worried it might trigger because workdays are a different beast (more brower tabs, lot of stuff running in background, etc.) but hopefully it goes well!!
RE: @shanmukhateja@social.linux.pizza
Update: It compiled successfully and I managed to install the kernel and boot into it.
So far so good. I haven’t run into the problem yet but when it does happen, I hope this was worth it.
@serigala_tropis@lgbtqia.space What a moronic decision. Might as well yelled, “I am POS” at the town-hall.
I might have to explore C++ RAAI concept sooner or later for #GitRaven.
It is getting difficult manually free-ing memory used via libgit2. I am having to think about and write if checks for all the edge cases across my GitManager class.
ChatGPT suggested this after I mentioned this issue and it sounds like it's useful.
RE: @shanmukhateja@social.linux.pizza
UPDATE: Turns out the kernel version I compiled already had the issue fixed. My code didn’t trigger once.
I will still keep it though atleast until my distro updates it from their end.
Hey I am watching The Bear season 1 and its a good series. I am loving it so fsr. EP4 done, calling it a night :)
