Signed our closing documents today on the house. 🥳

Linux and GNOME contributor over three decades. Blues guitarist.
Unemployed living abroad because Red Hat refused to help get my family to safety.
I am finding so much joy in cancelling services and getting my monthly burn rate as low as possible.
Cancelling all my subscription services feels waaay too good. And wow does giving the middle finger to US internet companies feel good.
Sick find in a family members garage this weekend. Vintage ph-490
House went up for sale today in Portland
Spent the last month and a half working like crazy fixing little things, cleaning the house, moving a few things to storage, and letting go of a lot of stuff.
Tomorrow, we do photos for the house listing and it will be up for sale by the end of the week.
The number of days until we leave is getting pretty low. Sort of a perfect moment in time to soft retire given the state of the industry and the world at large.
To give you an idea of what a day on the Red Hat desktop team looks like, yesterday I worked on the following projects in some fashion (code or debugging) and might have actually missed some more I didn't write down.
* Flatpak
* GLib
* Planet GNOME
* Sysprof
* Libdex
* Ptyxis
* GNOME Builder
* Foundry
* D-Spy
* Libpeas
* GNOME Shell
Just saw some screenshots where someone integrated Sysprof into some really interesting low-level developer tools. Love seeing it grow into more use cases!
I can never tell if Melania is dressed for a funeral or if she’s actually the grim reaper.
The homophones in French are really kicking my brain.
The little joys in life. I got my "Certificat de changement de résidence" so I don't have to pay VAT on all my personal belongings to get them out of customs. 🎊
We started planning our pets exodus nearly 8 months ago with their Veterinarian.
Despite that, they messed up the Rabies shots timeline for one of them (our cat June).
That means I get to do a 48-hour turn around flight in a few weeks to pick her up. Very much not enthused, but at least the Vet is paying for my flights.
I find it extremely funny that I spent a great deal of time writing the both the initial GDateTime implementation and libspelling.
My neurodiversity has me terrible at dates and times as well as spelling. Or perhaps, that was the reason, I dunno.
Imagine if you scraped the worst behavior on the internet and then made that the way humans communicate forthwith. We truly are already living in hell.
The JXL loading of backgrounds in GNOME is so slow for me now that if you don't already have the dark/light background cached in memory, it janks by not updating at the same time as libadwaita apps.
This is on a brand new ThinkPad P1 Gen 8...
Clearly I'm still not a JXL fan (yet).
Extremely difficult to acquire outside of Tibet, is Droma. Very unique tuber essential for Losar rice in my wife’s family.
I guess modern CADT closing of issues will be "Cascade of the Attenuation-Deficit Tensors"
My wagon auctioned for the _exact_ price I guessed it would. Still got it.
One of my concerns around how the Ireland corporate tax breaks are implemented and now closing the loopholes is that existing companies are grandfathered in.
That essentially means you create this protected class of corporations which others cannot compete against with regards to moving money to those typical tax shelters (Cayman Islands, etc).
In a fun practice for French bureaucracy I get sent from Air France to KLM back to Air France but this other part to submit paperwork which they may or may not reply to me about in 48 hours.
Writing Foundry/Manuals SQLite integration was rather painful because I wanted it to integrate well with libdex.
So I started toying with what a new API/ABI could look like based on those frustrations.

Every time I see a travel card advertised I think that they’ve missed an opportunity to make a GTFO card. Wanna get away and not come back? GTFO card, get out now.
