@pim@ublog.tech in the day, @IPngNetworks@ublog.tech after work.

A small software defined network software engineering, ludicrous-speed packet forwarding, open source internet club operating AS8298 from Zurich, Switzerland.

I like mountains, bake bread and drink wine.

Happy birthday to ... IPng Networks GmbH! I founded this company on August 2nd 2021 and it turned 5 years old this weekend. Rather than dazzle you with pictures of clouds, grandiose projections of our “global IP backbone”, and other claims that small businesses make to appear larger than they are, we’re happy to show what we know, what we own, and how we can help you accomplish your goals if you want to work with us. I'm loving every minute of it - #colo Zurich/Luzern/Geneva, and #iptransit

After this unfortunate leak from earlier, Peter van Dijk & Pieter Lexis (PowerDNS) do the incredibly fun but also Merciless NLNOG Quiz! We are at the tail end of the #nlnog Day 2026 and we're going out giggling.

The bots and botting. Lots of scanners and poking and prodding, mostly trying to deface wordpress and log4j that we do not run. Such a sad world, where the webserver gets 1M/day of useless requests. Think of the energy and logspace that could be saved! #nginx #counterabuse

@wrmsr@peering.social I find it frankly shocking that 100% of the abuse on my webcluster comes from AS8075 Azure. Sheesh. However the implication is that sending them /dev/urandom is going to cost me a lot of bandwidth for ~zero gain. I think I may just ban AS8075 alltogether :)

I found some non-hyperscaler disks! 26x18TB will become our next RustFS (minio replacement) S3 tanks (2x12x18TB per node). Wish me luck!

I am making progress towards v1.0.0 release of vpp-evpn; now including auto-failover based on a health check consensus, and real time traffic- and health reporting into the frontend. I'm going to let this soak for a while, as you can see, it's currently carrying a gig of traffic on one victim^W canary eVPN.

Yeasss, boot my pretties, and let me upgrade and add you to a working eVPN mesh!

The DCS-7050SX-128 will be for my office, their fans are 2U and much (!) less noisy :) the others go to datacenters for a new IPng Site Local design I’m working on.

New app! It's called GoUp (pronounce: goop) Not sure if I'll release it, but it's a combination of (single binary, docker-k8s native) blackbox prober and notification/incident management written in Go with a SPA-webapp and an OpenAPI REST surface.

@alyx@infosec.exchange it's fair play for a company with such poor sales morals. I also thought of engaging an LLM to have these sales conversations in my behalf, but it sounds funnier in my head than it will be in practice when it all explodes ;-)

@acontios@masto.hivane.net if you wanted to collaborate on a wider sensor network, I can make this tool spit out nginx maps (my usecase) but also aggregated prefix lists and ASNs etc, for use in Juniper or IOSXR or Bird. Would be fun! But if only for IPng's usecase, I will limit it to protecting web, as for smtp mostly spamhaus has all of these IPs already listed as compromised.

@jeroen@secluded.ch Yes, new tool called 'GoBAN', but I don't think it'll speak BGP, because IPng wouldn't use that sort of null-routing, I consider it a crude tool. I cross checked the top 50 offenders and all of them are on RBL already. But it comes with a report API and a banlist API, so one could poll it and make a BGP exporter.

One of the best things of using IP-Max as a carrier is its redundancy: 2x100G links down between Zurich and Frankfurt? We can just take the scenic route with zero issues.

On Monday we installed switches and circuits from Nikhef to Iron Mountain and Iron Mountain to NorthC (formerly DCG, we were there!). On Thursday we will work on Qupra core switches. On Friday we will connect Iron Mountain to Qupra. On Sat+Sun we will move out of EUNetworks. #selfhosting on steroids :)

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au a to-be-released VPP eVPN controller. It comes with a CLI , a gRPC andpoint and a SolidJS webui. It's following the same pattern as from my previous project (VPP Maglev loadbalancer controller). They are running on Bluefield2 DPUs (some with 200G and some with 2x25G)

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au @dch@bsd.network there's not much I'm afraid. I am a huge fan of the SN2700 and SN2410 you mentioned (we have a bunch of those at AS8298). Otherwise, I think eVPN/VxLAN with Arista 7050SX is the-bomb and you can buy those for $150,- these days (48x10G+4x40G). Maybe something to consider ... I have a working eVPN/VxLAN Bird2+VPP controlplane waiting for Bird2 to release its eVPN support, ready to go!

Claude created grafana dashboards for my VPP Maglev project. It wasn't precisely ... efficient at it, but together we stumbled through it and it was still a fair bit faster than rolling them by hand.
