Retired (mostly) accessibility pro. I love your pet pictures.
You may know me from the other place as sarahebourne. I try not to post about politics, but it can be hard when it affects people's lives and well-being. I like cats, dogs, birds, live music, and the interesting things people do and make.

I found some lovely lichens and fungi in the Middlesex Fells Reservation the other day. Edit: adding #TextureTuesday at the suggestion of @mikemccaffrey@pdx.social#lichens #LichenSubscribe #fungi

The hummingbird feeder was empty! I left it that way overnight because it was too dark to clean and refill it last night. First thing this morning, a hummingbird came by and noticed the deficiency. It hovered down to eye level with Hilo (a cat) who was crouched on the other side of the screen of the porch, waiting for a chipmunk or squirrel to come by. They stared at each other for quite a while. I understand why the bird thought the cat was in charge of things around here 😹

@joelvanderwerf@mastodon.social The first live music concert I went to was when my parents took us to Hudson NY to see Pete Seeger and that sloop. The music! The message! It was a defining moment for me. My parents were GOP and the GOP then was the party that was concerned about our responsibility for stewardship of Earth. Looking back now, the strangest thing is how so many people retained their party identity even as the party platform changed. I for one stuck with Pete's message.

From last September at Acadia National Park. They had been running rescue training exercises, so installed hardware had been flagged for the trainees. Apparently there are places in the park where visitors need rescuing frequently enough that they install things ropes can be hooked into. Generally speaking, if you see something this, do not go any closer to the edge! Tagging @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org because it seems like something he'd be interested in 🤣

One of the features I loved about Ask Jeeves was the ability to see trends in what was being searched. Not the "top searches", but the searches that were growing the fastest. Fascinating insights into random nooks of the long tail.

I got a hankering for three bean salad, so I looked up a bunch of recipes and then didn't follow any of them. (How much sugar?! Are you kidding me?) Also, I only have one kind of bean, so it's just a 1 bean salad. Needs to marinate for at least 12 hours, so I'll see how it is tomorrow. Smells good!
White navy beans (cooked only enough to leave a bit of crunch), small thin sliced onion, thin sliced celery, sweet red pepper, cider vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, oregano, basil, thyme. (No sugar.)

I have a new hero! I've spent quite a bit of time over the years thinking about the design of a self-cleaning bathroom. Close the door, hit the button, and come back later - kinda like a dishwasher.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org They get a lot of visitors, it's a popular trail, and that granite is slick when wet. I suspect it's more that they don't remove them knowing they can use them again. I saw easily a half dozen along that stretch. There were probably more, but I wasn't going to leave the trail to look for them.

We had another great time at this year's Green River Festival, held in Greenfield MA this past Father's Day weekend. The spouse has written some blog posts if you care to read about it: Day 1: https://jbxpro.blogspot.com/2026/06/grf-2026-friday.html Day 2: https://jbxpro.blogspot.com/2026/06/grf-2026-saturday.html Day 3: https://jbxpro.blogspot.com/2026/06/grf-2026-sunday.html Tickets are already on sale for next year (big discount through 7 July!) if you waited too long for this year's. #GreenRiverFestival #LiveMusic

@maccruiskeen@social.linux.pizza I'm hoping it works out this way. It's a known weakness of extreme gerrymandering that it means you have razor-thin margins in at least some districts. I do worry about voter suppression tactics, though, especially to do with confusion about polling places in newly created districts. @futurebird@sauropods.win
