Michelle / The Giddy Stitcher
Cross stitcher, knitter, crocheter, newbie sewer (sewist?). Multicrafter extraordinaire! Have a YouTube channel I'll never not feel awkward about.
She/her, ND, reluctantly British, probably some other things I've forgotten to list.
Safe space, no politics boosting here.
I've been wanting to try and needle felt a highland cow for ages but this visit to friends in Aberdeen was the perfect opportunity. I knew they'd appreciate a handmade gift even if it turned out slightly wonky, which it definitely did.
But it's also very cute, and I had a lot of fun making it! Maybe I'll grab some better photos before we leave but also maybe I'll forget so this one might have to do.
Another tick for the #FinishOrFrogAlong list!
One of the projects from the mixed up pile of floss last #WIPWednesday is officially back in action for this one.
This is Beachfront Home by @infinitybear@mastodon.infinitybeardesigns.com and I've been working on it on and off for what seems like years at this point, every time I pick it up I remember how much bigger than expected it is! Today saw some progress on the sky, while binge watching driving mock test videos 🙈
Determined to get this one done. It is officially on the #FinishOrFrogAlong list and that's final.
That thing where you have a fun weekend away in a fun place with fun friends and you tell yourself you'll just be normal this time and not be exhausted for the whole week after but it turns out it doesn't work like that 😩
Happy news today is that I've just done my longest ever drive (three and a half hours straight, that's a lot for a learner!) and now we're in Scotland 🎉
The slightly more annoying news is that we're only away for two nights and I've somehow had to bring three different bras. Three! What even is that 🙄
I have no idea why Past Michelle thought signing up to a 10k race was a good idea, but here we are.
Sometimes I disappear from socials for a while and it's normally because I'm just distracted or sad or stressed or too hot or something. But if you don't hear an update by tonight in this case I've probably died. Please avenge me in whichever way seems appropriate to you.
Survival is the goal, anything under 1hr20 will be a miracle. Let's go!
This week was Redcar parkrun's 666th event, so they asked people to dress accordingly. Cue a sea of red, and even the one guy who tours parkruns dressed as a dolphin had got the memo and somehow attached a pair of horns.
We're running the Middlesbrough 10k tomorrow so I took it truly easy today and ended up slow jogging in the "party bus" behind these guys in suits who were playing a themed music playlist the whole way round. Nice friendly banter, a bit of group karaoke, and we ended with a big group sprint finish scoring two of the bus passengers a new PB! 🎉
This has definitely been my most unproductive summer basically ever, both in terms of crafting and also just generally real life.
But you can tell autumn is on the way, because in the last two days I've started planning a needle felting project and also feeling the urge to make some oldschool friendship bracelets out of embroidery floss.
Now I just need to get up off the couch and actually do it!
Emerged from resentful summer hibernation for a new-to-me #parkrun, Northallerton, which at first seemed like it might be quite uninspiring from the course description.
But as per usual the volunteers made it (shoutout to the marshal with the bell!), and somehow I ended up running in an impromptu gang of three and having a very nice time.
Sadly missed out on the geocache on the nearby bridge, but it's ok since we also forgot to take any photos so need to revisit this one anyway.
Instead here's a photo of my first ever properly public reverse bay park, performed in front of one of those big gym windows where the people on treadmills are all like 👁️👄👁️
Update from your correspondent in the UK: today has been an acceptable temperature and I hereby return to the land of the living.
Went on holiday for one week, so naturally it's taken one week after that to recover physically and then another week to recover mentally. Standard.
I used the time to complete the increases for this yoke, which as recently discussed means the project is now "basically done".
Yep. Totally 👀
One day I'll pick up a new craft and it WON'T leave bits of fluff everywhere. But it is not this day.
The only positive thing I can say about dragging myself to #parkrun this morning is that at least it was 9 degrees cooler than it is now 🥵
Oh and also that the vibes at #Redcar were immaculate, but tbh they always are.
#Running in the heat is really not for me! Unfortunately we've signed up to a 10k in August though so I better get used to it fast 🙈
Respect to everyone who managed it this morning.
Look, I found a contender for World's Chonkiest Grape!
Following me is just so exciting, isn't it?
Three weeks since our last #parkrun (and my last run of any kind), we headed back to Albert Park in #Middlesbrough, which was our first ever course and also where we both have our PBs.
No way was that kind of time happening today though, it's sunny and humid and I could barely make it a quarter mile at a time before stopping for a walk!
Still. Survived. And even survived driving us back home, despite a very sketchy junction where I got beeped at for being too slow. The perils of being a #LearnerDriver 😭
Since we're travelling Down South today, we figured it was a good chance to try a new #parkrun venue on the way.
Lucky for us Pontefract parkrun was right near the motorway, plus a new letter for us and of course our first step towards the Full Ponty challenge!
It mostly follows the loop of the racecourse but starts and ends around a lake which, today at least, featured adorable baby geese. And then to top it all off, there was an ice cream truck at the finish line!
A spot of "extreme deltiology" in a cloudy but warm A Coruña today. Possibly one of the nerdier things I've ever done on purpose.
Another hotel room, another nutritious meal.
