@stux@mstdn.social It physically pains me that the middle has a compass and then proceeds to draw out a circle manually without actually using it... as a compass... Senior still wins the day though. 🤣

Devs please implement framerate limits on load screens so our GPUs don't scream at us and use 500 watts to show us a still image at 5000 FPS. (Literally I can't think of any reason not to set load screens to like 1 FPS or something. They don't need the GPU to do any work show a still image!) As a side note, I can't figure out why DXVK_FRAME_RATE=# and D3D9_FRAME_RATE=# aren't limiting the framerate in such cases. Are these not the right variables?

@benroyce@mastodon.social @stux@mstdn.social I was thinking the same thing! This is totally a thing middle management would do... EDIT: Actually, I'd like to take it further. It's more like middle management would batch buy 5000 compasses (for 500 workers) and then order them to use them that way.

I got four hours of sleep last night due to getting caught up in a book and this is triggering me. 😭 #Monsterdon

It's honestly kind of impressive how dirty they got that car driving for what? Like one? Two days? #Monsterdon

Yeah. What go wrong just opening fire all out right across two unarmed civilians. #Monsterdon

I'm not insane! I'm not if he's not! I'm not either! #Monsterdon

Seriously, that car looks like it has bathed in mud then dried for a week! How'd they do that just driving on the road for a day or two?? #Monsterdon

... ... Is it going to turn out that the publisher used Cthuluian ink to print the books? Is that it? Is that all? #Monsterdon

@FritzAdalis@infosec.exchange @dallo@pouet.chapril.org @ariadne@social.treehouse.systems If it results in this crap ending or at least not getting worse it would be worth it. I admit that is a big if.

@chrisoliver@indieweb.social @blaubeer@mastodon.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr What do you do with the movies if you don't play them? Look at the thumbnails?

Definitely loving the guitars. #Monsterdon

Was... Was the kid on a bike with cards in the spokes making noise supposed to... be scary? #Monsterdon

@Tijn@dosgame.club Seriously, why don't they get that only real sales are sales and they don't get them by chasing people away and terrifying children...

@dallo@pouet.chapril.org A New Lawsuit Claims the Memory Crisis Was Manufactured on Purpose It literally was. It literally is just a combination of a scam and then collusion when the memory companies saw what the market was doing and that they could get away with it. I hope the lawsuit wins because they've done a darned good job of screwing everyone. And super-kudos to those who brought it against them. I was afraid no one would.

@LRRRonEarth@beige.party Are you sure? According to Doom they're just like... everywhere...

@LRRRonEarth@beige.party Try hitting random walls. Sometimes there's a hidden switch to a room full of them.

@LRRRonEarth@beige.party Oh, I forgot to say, don't hit the walls too hard or you might- oh, sorry. Nevermind.

@realaravinth@gts.batsense.net @wiredfire@mstdn.social @nixCraft@mastodon.social Sadly my 2-in-1 just suddenly quit one day. It started randomly locking up, then one day wouldn't boot anymore. The one downside of this type of thing is it is quite a lot less repairable. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Probably some tiny SMD capacitor died or something.

@argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org @nixCraft@mastodon.social Honestly....... If laws were still a thing, yeah they could. It's literally a scam and collusion.

@markarayner@mas.to It has been 0͟ days since I spilled coffee. 🤣

@catsalad@infosec.exchange They love anything moving around on screen, even a cursor. But the best results I ever got outside of things like screensavers was probably stuff like the "Neko" (/ Neko98/etc) program.

Ok #Monsterdon peeps. I sat down and watched that "The Sting of Death" that people keep voting for. I realize I'm shooting myself in the foot here by telling you this, but: it's bad. No, not b-movie bad. They couldn't afford decent mics, they make mistakes and couldn't do retakes, the monster costume is a scuba suit with stuff glued on and a plastic air pillow thing on his head, etc etc bad. It's not even the kind of bad where you laugh at it. I probably just shot myself in the foot and I'd like to ask everyone not to vote for it anymore, but just know that if you do, you're not even going to be laughing at it.

Seriously, this movie keeps feeling less "horror" and more just "what the bleep is even going on?" to me. #Monsterdon

People seriously aren't kidding on the smoking in this movie. Good grief... I bet the cigarette bill came on two forms. #Monsterdon

@grumpygamer@mastodon.gamedev.place This isn't even an extremist view. Everyone is responsible for code they utilize/deploy... If they argued they received it on a message board or something it still wouldn't make them immune.

RE: https://chaos.social/@MissInformation/116940658791717111 Video correcting for the perceived movement of the sky. Neat as.

Gotta love the way these people with actual guns do not stick together and help each other but just leave while several of their members are being attacked by dogs. Small town goodness right there. #Monsterdon

@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io That's very literally because they are paid/controlled by the corporations running said big social media networks...

@i0null@infosec.exchange No. Everything goes in ~/Downloads/tmp It's a very organized way of doing things. Everyone else is just wrong.

Person walks forward. He goes flying backwards through a door. ... I think we skipped something there? Like, you know, the how? #Monsterdon

@juanejot@beige.party @nixCraft@mastodon.social Don't worry, none. So we can still afford to buy those.

@ezlin@gamepad.club I assume you know about Protondb? https://www.protondb.com/app/261430 Only one tip seemed to jump out as recent enough to be relevant. One was a person saying to use an older version of Proton (they used 9.0.4) Another person said the Lutris installer was working for them though. https://lutris.net/games/aion/ Looking at it, there is nothing special in its installer except that it updates DirectX (not sure if this is still applicable) and these winetricks tasks: vcrun2008 vcrun2013 physx corefonts win7. (Or protontricks if in Steam.) Did you install those two runtimes? I could imagine if the software was really stupid it might not provide the error message that the runtime was missing. The win7 one might also be important. Of course, Steam should have scripts to do that...

Miru's stream just died on me. 😭 #Monsterdon

@pianosaurus@c.im @typeswitch@gamedev.lgbt I don't seem to recall that specific reference, but, regardless, it would just result in those of means stripping the forests bare and then salting the earth so no one could plant behind them...

@chksome@hachyderm.io Well, I'm no good at actually compiling my own kernels and such (I cheated with this Zen kernel. I copied the .config file from the distro's kernel) so I guess if you're right I have to wait for 7.2 to actually be available, which may be a while if this is still on 7.0. But here's the thing: it's not doing this in my Debian-based system which is also on 6.18 if I recall. (I'm using the Xanmod-LTS kernel which if I recall correctly is 6.18.) Nor does it on the stock kernel which, if I recall, is 6.12. (Yeah, Debian is that far behind...)

@typeswitch@gamedev.lgbt And they were the filthy rich people who did it too...

@pianosaurus@c.im @typeswitch@gamedev.lgbt Ah, a lot of the details from that one stuck with me less for whatever reason. Mostly I remember the food that enjoys being eaten, lol. Sounds like he got ahead of that one too though.

@anarchaeopteryx@gamepad.club One thing one can do instead of "installing" ReShade in everything is just save the files themselves and simply manually drop those into game folders. All you need is to install it once in something (anything) then copy the shader and texture files out of it. The dll file you can extract from the installer as an archive (reshade32.dll or reshade64.dll should simply be renamed to opengl32.dll, d3d9.dll, or dxgi.dll depending on the game.) And, of course the .ini configuration files. Although if you install all the shaders a few do cause a crash when it initially compiles them and must be removed. I forget which though. I just keep a copy in a folder and then simply drag over into games' binary folders. That way I don't have to fight with all this stuff every time.

Children running and playing with a ball and a fluffy dog aren't really as scary to me as perhaps the director intended apparently. #Monsterdon

@wiredfire@mstdn.social @nixCraft@mastodon.social It really was! Though for me the best I ever had was a 2-in-1 "Transformer" by Asus. So light and thin. Sure it ran on an Intel Atom, but IMO people who think they need a Core i9 running at 10GHz or an AMD 48 core server CPU and a gaming GPU in a """laptop""" just completely lost the point of what a laptop even is. They also lost their wallets. It costs 2x, even 3x as much to have such hardware compared to desktop equivalents and they're always worse no matter how hard they try due to hardware constrictions... (So you spend far more to get less...)

I want it on the record I specifically tried to warn everyone not to vote for this movie. I regret nothing. #Monsterdon

@ezlin@gamepad.club Wasn't PlayOnLinux just a really really old WINE implementation from way back? Or is my memory just totally off-base? But I guess modern WINE isn't working for you then?

@catsalad@infosec.exchange Are you sure it isn't actually this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTO5vhRFCv0 😁

@nixCraft@mastodon.social The irony is so thick you're going to need a steak knife to get through it.

Two extra things of note. First, I tried a different kernel too. Specifically Zen which is using 7.0.12 right now, so it's not just the 6.18.35 kernel from the distribution. Second, I tried using those variables without actually disabling variable refresh rates and still got a softlock. So far after turning off variable refresh rates I haven't had a soft lock, so it definitely seems to be the deciding factor, or at least a deciding factor. EDIT: Woops. Those variables weren't correctly set. Apparently env-update is not recursive (it and the devs just think it is) and the /etc/environment.d directory is useless. I'll have to retest with VFR on now that the variables are correctly set. I don't have the spoons to do so just atm though...

@cmconseils@mastodon.social wat

@ezlin@gamepad.club Good luck!
