@barthalion@social.treehouse.systems there's no "afford" here. Gnome and Flathub refused sponsorship from Framework because of their support for fashtech, so the ego bruised fash are withdrawing their support and spending ostentatiously on visibly fash projects to project their vision of technology's future

@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems the conclusion is soooo typical too, people say "next time I'll trust a better agent" instead of questioning the structure of the trust relationship

@skyfaller@jawns.club @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org "researchers found that critical wet-bulb temperatures ranged from 25°C to 28°C in hot-dry environments and from 30°C to 31°C in warm-humid environments"
This doesn't make sense to me. I've been camping, hiking, biking in these temperatures without having a heat stroke. "25-28 in hot dry environments" 28 is not even hot?? That's a nice day at pretty much any humidity.
When I've heard 35 I'm like sure, that's dangerously hot. 28??

@shauna@social.coop offloading everything you can to AI is like putting your hands up and closing your eyes when you're behind the wheel. If people complain bitterly about the outcome, they aren't trying to shame the driver. They can plainly see that the driver's culpable behavior was shameful. Making excuses for it is just another shame on top.

@shanselman@hachyderm.io is this basically a special purpose YouTube playlist or is there some way of synchronizing this with the resistance settings on a bike trainer? Or some other feature I'm missing?

@_elena@mastodon.social @vanderbeeken@mastodon.online @aral@mastodon.ar.al the piece reads to me as stealth marketing. The "European minister accused of promoting European technology" framing sets up a jerk reaction like "well I would hope they would promote that!"
Then they end the piece with "the company planned to prioritise onboarding European media organisations and politicians" which again reads like ad copy, building anticipation for a property that's ~finally pulling for the local team.~

@ophis @Craigp @woozle Glimpse turned out to be a grift, sadly.
They first said they were going to have a renamed stable editor, an idea a lot of people liked but weren't eager to donate to. They then announced a bunch of vague but exciting promises for feature improvements, which was better for generating donations and hype but didn't come with any plan to actually implement them. They then announced, I shit you not, a total UI rewrite in rust, at which point the bottom fell out.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online that's what CA Democrats look for in a leader unfortunately. A Republican willing to walk in a pride parade and put a D next to their name. That's basically the qualifications.

@RoastbeefHashTag I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt when they reply all that maybe they thought their response would be valuable to the group, even if it's just "Thanks, got it! -me"
The only time I talk to somebody about it one on one is when they blast out a message that they definitely didn't intend, like if they're gossiping about someone. But if you get in a habit of shooting off quick email replies without being careful about the user interface, a mishap becomes inevitable.

@RoastbeefHashTag not that I'm implying anybody who's answered this poll is emailing me or is necessarily part of the problem. But if I polled the people who are reply-all'ing me, I am imagining I would get similar results, and I'm trying to imagine why that might be.

@mntmn this is exciting! My intent has been to buy a Reform Next with the Quasar module when it's available. Do you have advice on how to time that? Should I order a current gen Next and the module separately, or are you planning to eventually do a crowd supply for the two together?

@rasterweb@mastodon.social @mbonsma@mastodon.social in a lot of cities, poor quality bagels are plentiful and tend to pass without notice, but in Montreal the quality of bagels tends to be consistently high, it's something people take pride in. They are flavorful, they tend to be on the smaller side and relatively thin compared to the NYC big fluffy bagel. My favorite are the ones covered in cumin seeds, they just burst with flavor and smell amazing.

@LevZadov @QasimRashid they say it like "lord willin' an' the crick don't rise" with a short i. One of my aunts when she was a girl was caught halfway across the creek on the way to school one morning when a flash flood hit, and she was found hours later clinging to the top of the highest boulder singing hymns at the top of her lungs. I sometimes think of that story when I hear that phrase.

@mattmaison it's no disrespect, I'm sure there's plenty of areas where I also need ongoing education.
Was reply/reply-all always obvious to you or did you need to be trained? Do you also notice any generational divide in who sends "got it! -me" messages to 100 recipients in your inbox, or is it pretty evenly divided for you?

@mattmaison I prefer not to think that a huge number of my gen X colleagues are morons! When I approach somebody about this one-on-one and point out the impact of sending pleasantries to 100+ people, they usually apologize or say something agreeable and then go right back to doing it. I can't believe that it's malicious, and the people in question are typically very sharp in other areas.

@RoastbeefHashTag my poll right now is at 32 votes with not a single person admitting to always using reply-all; even accounting for the likely bias of polling fedi, that feels like a strong signal. And I don't think people are lying on their poll responses. But there's gotta be an explanation of why people answer that they understand this, then turn around and reply-all gratuitously in practice.
