In summary: I think message contents should also be treated as structured data rather than just as strings! Feels like something I should have realized sooner, but it's funny how the brain doesn't always make connections that seem obvious in retrospect

I finally went back to @hive76.bsky.social after work last night to print off some buttons for the Tangarine faceplate for my #tangara, and recently got the new holographic sleeve for my #mntpocketreform. Building up my collection of shiny modified open hardware devices :D

@slowfallinward @cwebber Very true, though also keep in mind that bikes and trains can work well together! You can practically get much further from a station on a bike than on foot Especially if you don't actually have to take the bike on the train and can rent another one cheaply and easily on the other end (e.g. https://www.ns.nl/en/door-to-door/ov-fiets)

I've become a regular at one of my local coffee shops, and at this point I've gotten to know the owner, employees, and some of the other regulars well enough that I go there as much for the community as the coffee at this point!

@cwebber@social.coop I semi-regularly encounter problems for which I can envision a nice solution with Goblins and/or OCapN. Unfortunately the nature of my job is such that I'm usually working with large brownfield systems that wouldn't be practical to rewrite... I have to play around with Goblins stuff in my off time to scratch that itch, haha

@civodul@toot.aquilenet.fr But you might not trust the packages provided by a channel! Or at least, you might not trust them with the full authority of your user account. You might be installing them with the intention of sandboxing them as well.

I have a FP5 that I'm not currently daily driving and I see there's an image for it, so might need to give it a try I'm curious if it would be possible to run Guix on it... the docs say there's nothing stopping you from running Nix on it but Guix like Nix requires a writable store dir. Going to have to dig into this some more later

@civodul@toot.aquilenet.fr Ooh, exciting! I wonder if someday it could be possible to evaluate channel code in sandboxes as well, so trusting a channel becomes less of a concern. But I know that gets a lot more complicated than evaluating only the channel file itself in a sandbox

Of course at some point you'll need to parse strings for e.g. user input, but I think the more you can make the application's internal representation a data structure rather than a string, the better. How users interact with non-string parts of the data structure while writing messages becomes an interesting UX question; I think Slack-style menus/completion when you type a prefix character (@, /, etc) feels nice.
