these are the first (ever) two shipping MNT Reform Next open hardware laptops! going out this friday to Crowd Supply.

the 14 MNT Hyper Reform Nexts in their cactus leather sleeves, now being packed into boxes for the monday shipment!

did a very old-school thing and open sourced some software :D https://codeberg.org/minute/mntfiles (disclaimer: it still has many bugs!)

as a teenager i was fascinated by sects and cults, as i had some encounters with jehova's witnesses, scientology etc. this turned out to be quite useful life experience when having to deal with ai boosters

it's only the first of october and we already got a new MNT September Update article out, written by @holo_memory@mastodon.gamedev.place, enjoy: https://mntre.com/media/reform_md/2026-09-30-september-update.html

what's missing: classic macintosh style disk auto-ejection, but for sd cards

printed (locally in berlin, by pinguin) handbooks for MNT Reform Next are in, looking good!

if you depend on a secret machine, whose usage you rent from a secret factory, to write your code, you have become the downstream of an oracle that is now in control of you, it has become the new landlord of your skill, and you have also become its little pay piggie

ohhh now i get it... i'm actually in the year 3000 and in a long-term holodeck experience created by lana wachowski, it's the prequel to the matrix and lets you slowly and agonizingly experience how misguided humans built the matrix themselves

it doesn't make any sense. linux and the gpl have no technical reason to exist. one could've just bought a copy of unix, right? oh, some people couldn't afford unix, or wanted a bit more control about their own computers? "well that's a you problem" or what. remember the bill gates borg memes in the 1990s? remember "linux is a cancer"? but now it's totally fine to get assimilated by anthropic, which is the new microsoft btw. hello mcfly, anybody home?

leak

just took some pictures of the new MNT Pocket Keyboard (small standalone USB-C keyboard with integrated optical trackball and RGB backlight) that's coming to our shop at some point next week. the case is a mix of aluminum (top plate) and Multi Jet Fusion printed Nylon (HP PA 12 S). in my opinion it feels really nice in the hands. open source hardware, of course.

(sorry for revealing so many of my actual feelings today, i'm just a bit upset with things)

my heart goes out to the people hurt and affected by the cowardly attack on the CSD in berlin today, in my neighborhood ;/

while i'm on the road, @holo_memory@mastodon.gamedev.place launched the new MNT Pocket Reform Standalone Keyboard on the shop! it's our impossibly compact mechanical USB-C keyboard with integrated trackball (open hardware)! works with any computer, media center, tablet or phone. check it out: https://shop.mntre.com/products/mnt-pocket-reform-standalone-keyboard

framegrabbing composite out of my amiga 1200 with my mnt pocket reform to debug things

biked through the city to a doc appointment. then checked my calendar. it's in exactly one week m)) #adhd

and you could have it all, my empire of slop

MNT Reform Next production parts assembly pre-check done with @theawesomerandomness@mastodon.social, all bulk custom and OTS flex cables for all MNT Reform Nexts confirmed and ordered, complete screw list confirmed. production trackpad button PCBs are on the way to us, and CNC company promised they're finishing the anodizing today, lets see

this is how the main device looks like BTW (MNT Station)

in other good news: we recently passed the 25 preorders threshold on the MNT Quasar 6490 processor module and put in our order with Atlantik/Thundercomm for the QCS6490+RAM/UFS component. i'd say now is a good time to reserve your spot if you're interested in this upgrade for Pocket Reform: https://shop.mntre.com/products/mnt-quasar-6490-processor-module?taxon_id=13

a new black version of the MNT Pocket Reform vegan leather sleeve is now available in the shop: https://shop.mntre.com/products/mnt-pocket-reform-sleeve designed by @theawesomerandomness@mastodon.social and made in Portugal from Desserto vegan cactus leather substitute. it's very smooth. buckle is metal.

hmm the news (rumor?) that tsmc have trouble packaging $1B apple iphone chips because of missing dram, plus dram supply for 2027 being fully sold already signals to me that rampocalypse part 2 is coming?

sorry but "ai" is just a big ol' load of crap

made a plan for if all the computer stuff goes bust due to the slop industry: —become a trans goth/punk/industrial music/performer and live on tips and merch —give courses/seminars to worn-out IT/business people on how to be creative without ai

working with daniel was an absolute joy, he's a rare software engineer that is 100% reliable, excellent communicator and can deliver deep technical solutions on the whole spectrum from web applications (incl. UI) to embedded/kernel drivers. highly recommended, hire him! https://chaos.social/@ailurux/116792506036949207

@tragivictoria@mastodon.com.pl @whitequark@social.treehouse.systems @ratsnakegames@mastodon.social well, this gave me some real hope back then, but it wasn't actually on the lkml (misremembered) https://social.kernel.org/objects/60bcac97-e7c7-4899-a1b6-bb72196cddaf

ffmpeg remote code execution vuln https://jfrog.com/blog/pixelsmash-critical-ffmpeg-vulnerability-turns-media-files-into-weapons/

@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems @tragivictoria@mastodon.com.pl @ratsnakegames@mastodon.social yeah. i guess this post was more important for linux than linus realizes

i'll spare everyone my take on the new apple thing

looks like the rockchip is creating the pause that it doesn't like though

"Hurt" is now playing in my head after reading > This is *NOT* some kind of "social warrior" project

(this is mostly a joke post btw)

@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems @timonsku@mastodon.social very good

@libcamera@floss.social very cool! i have a lazy question: lets say i have a usb (uvc) raw video source, can i use libcamera for debayering and color tuning, and would it create another video device for consumption by applications?

some ingredients for success:

• echo 4 > /sys/module/drm_display_helper/parameters/dp_aux_i2c_transfer_size
• return -EBUSY
• udelay(300)

@libcamera@floss.social (previously i've done this using v4l2 loopback and gstreamer)

someone has a recipe for running vivado p+r in CI? :D or what's the status of the foss toolchain for zynq?

(quirks was useless for this btw)
