I started with the “complicated” piece in 2021 or 2022. I finished the hand embroidery but it didn’t feel done, so I stashed it for years. I recently learned to do needle tatting and thought it would be exactly what this piece needed!
That was true enough to get me to also make the “simple” piece, which was tedious because I couldn’t leave any errors at all in it. I had to frog whole lines three times.
RIP Tony Hoare, whose wisdom is needed more every day.

My #embroidery “baygoose tapestry” is now live on the wall of the Robot Arms at #emfcamp . That means I can’t work on it anymore and have to find something else to do with my hands, eyes, and mind. Luckily there seems to be a lot going on here!
Thanks to @installations@social.emfcamp.org for accepting my unhinged proposal :)

Inspired by @foone@digipres.club ‘s bumper sticker design at https://www.redbubble.com/i/sticker/Old-Useless-Broken-Computers-by-Foone/179052657.EJUG5 , I made this for my front door. My EeePC will be safe now 🥰

if you need me, I’ll be repeatedly saying “Sir? Sir? SIR?!” to my cat like he’s a customer about to walk into a staff-only area

@barometz@social.treehouse.systems I stole the composition from a picture on this Wikipedia page, which unfortunately doesn’t give the original source. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treadwheel_crane

@drj@typo.social I do a lot of stuff with bitmap fonts for cross-stitch patterns, so I’ll be curious to see the other replies. Also glad to have had this question cross my feed and introduce me to your work!

@drj@typo.social I have enjoyed working with YAFF, the format used for https://github.com/robhagemans/hoard-of-bitfonts . There is also the OpenType bitmap format, which is one of many provided by VileR’s archive at https://int10h.org/oldschool-pc-fonts/ . I’ve also worked a bit with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_Screen_Font but the corpus is less exciting to me, so I haven’t thought about it in a while.

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange I’d been assuming that your condition had improved from context clues, but I’m glad to get confirmation that it has. I wish you many more regained pleasures.

@Unixbigot I half-remember a short story or maybe poem with the repeating theme of “and then the men came”, and how it’s never “and then the men came and they fixed all the roofs” or “and then the men came and they carried water for us”

@kenshirriff The knee interface you mention in the footnotes is an intriguing breadcrumb I’d like to follow.
