Reminds me of the 1980s Miniscribe scandal, where they rented a warehouse and filled it with 26,000 masonry bricks, packaged them, then told everyone they were HDD drives. Complete with serial numbers.

I've got an old Miniscribe 10mb drive, and yes. It's a murder weapon.

^^This. Every time they talk breathlessly about agents "breaking containment" or hacking a website while helpless humans look on in horror.. that's a PR stunt. The "AI waking up and killing everyone" is a bigger version of that.

There exists no amount of training that will improve these losers. They were literally already criminals before ICE.
If by 'reform' you mean prosecute them for kidnapping & murder, then yes.

He's walking dead, which is worse.
An empty corpse shambling about in daylight, uttering word salad & nonsense proclamations. Impossible to ignore. If he had the good grace to fucking lay down and stop moving it'd be different for them, but no.
In some ways I prefer this to the Charlie Kirk pageantry they will throw when he legit dies.

All they are accomplishing here is reminding the world what a shit show Trump's pandemic response was. Seriously. A lot of people had forgotten, but now they're thinking about it again. With midterms about 95 days away. Genius move, assholes.

Baffling. We have collectively thought about this for decades.
I mean, "robot goes nuts and kills people" has been a popular media trope for over a century, but it's always the robot's MAKER who gets blamed. Almost never the robot.
Why is an AI agent any different?

Curious how state recording laws impact AI recording/transcription?
1-party states imply that because YOU are participating and YOU are recording, it's perfectly legal to do so without obtaining consent.
2-party states require everyone in attendance to give consent.
And then there are hybrids & exceptions galore.

^^Yes, this!! Worth noting that Wisconsin is far from a Blue state, too.
Assuming the proper message gets out, that he IS shoving money into state elections, voters will notice.

The way I read the article, EVERYONE in the CEO's conspiracy thought it was a bad idea. But ChatGPT sounded so confident he did it anyway.
Or at least, that's probably how they all testified.

One reason they seek out old, out-of-circulation books is their uniqueness. Their LLM will be the only one trained on (say) Virginia Bird Spotter's Guide, 1956 Edition.
So you see, if they let anyone else have that book they forfeit that uniqueness.
It's fuckin evil but it's how they think.

Pretty sure the "free beer" part is what's causing problems. A business giving away free alcohol is a no-no in most states. If he said they were gonna charge 47 cents a beer or make it a private "members only" event (wink) then charge 47 cents to "join the club" it'd probably be fine. That's how VFW chapters give away booze, for example. That's how dry counties in Texas serve beer.
Of course it could just be Nazis.
If it's state Nazis then fuck 'em.

He still, in 2026, thinks "asylum seekers" are people ejected from insane asylums. He really thinks that.
Probably because of the Castro Mariel Boatlift incident in 1980, when he was in his 30s.

It *might* happen faster this time around since automated trading wasn't nearly as efficient in 2000. Humans were still very much in the loop for the vast majority of trades, operating at human response speeds.
26 years later, we've got algorithms & trigger conditions happening in milliseconds.

What really happened: OpenAI trumpets to the world they have terrible internal security, because their AI agent found & used two back-to-back exploits on the OpenAI network.
"We don't know how to build a secure sandbox," they further elaborated.

AI generators appeal to those who aren't creative, who yearn to create.
"AI levels the playing field," they are told, which means NOW they can write novels, create images & video, design houses... all without learning how to do any of that!
Very seductive, if you're that sort of person.

One day the tokens will cost more than what businesses can pay, and they'll either die OR try to hire back their employees.
Businesses that stick with AI will one day discover their agents quit working because their dependent data centers went dark. Because the AI company crashed.
A LOT of shit will stop working. Entire web sites. Payment systems. Possibly firmware reliant on clouds that no longer exist. Those suffering from AI psychosis get weird when their AI friends 'die'.

Let them keep one (1) billion dollars, so they can masturbate over the title Billionaire. Then take all the rest. Literally tax them the rest of their fortune, that they do not need or use except as bragging rights.

If it makes you feel any better, I doubt it would have made much difference. Users famously don't read warnings, even if they are modal, jammed in their face, with red blinking lights.
I've witnessed this myself; users clicking through critical warning boxes as if they're a roadblock to what they want. I can't imagine the average Mozilla user carefully reading anything.

"We need our AI to sound like a 1950s pulp author"

"What if somebody asks our agent how to repair a 1972 Ford Maverick?"
