@m@lgbtqia.space This is the post. Very interesting. "traced $2 billion in nonprofit grants and 45 states of lobbying records to figure out who's pehind the #AgeVerification bills. The answer involves a company that profits from your data vriting laws that collect more of it. y OK_Lingonberry3296 in linux |-|Ok_Lingonberry3296 |S 60 points 7 hoursago The Heritage connection is documented and it qoes deeper than most people realize. #HeritageFoundation funded three of the six named organizations in the Digital Childhood Alliance coalition, which is tne group pushing these bills nationally. Those three are NCOSE (National Center on Sexual Exploitation), the institute for Family Studies, and the Ethics and Public Policy Center. The last two received $50,000 each specifically for a "Protect Kids Online' initiative that produced the policy research underlying the ASAA framework. Here's also a direct personnel pipeline. Annie Chestnut Tutor worked as a legislative assistant to Senator Mike Lee, where her portfolio included tech and telecom policy. Lee introduced the federal ASAA. Tutor then moved to Heritage Foundation as a policy analyst, where she now publishes reports advocating tor the same bill her former boss introduced. Her testimonial was on the DCA website from its verv first dav of existence, before the organization was even publicly announced. She shaped the bill in Lee's office, advocates for it at Heritage, and endorsed the coalition pushing it trom launch day. On top of that, Tiffany Justice, co-founder of Moms for Liberty (another DCA coalition member). was hired as Executive Vice President of Heritage Action for America in July 2025. So two of DCA's six named members are now functionally the same organization at the leadership level. Meanwhile, a Heritage Foundation fellow named Dustin Carmack, who authored the Intelligence Community chapter of Proiect 2025, was hired by Meta in May 2024. So there's personnel flowing in both directions. On your point about the EU and UK: the comparison actually helps illustrate the problem. The EU's Digital Services Act and related frameworks include explicIt exemptions for open source software. None of the US bills do. California AB-1043 defines "Operatinc system Provider" as anyone who develops, licenses, or controls an OS on any general purpose computing level. That language covers Volunteer-maintained Linux distributions. Six US states have enacted or introduced bills from the same template and not one contains a FOSS carve-out. Whether that's intentional or just negligent drafting, the effect is the same. We will upload more files regarding the Heritage Foundation platter this week"

@junesim63 Beavers are so cool. Our family has dedicated over 300 acres with a couple miles of meandering beaver wetland to permanent forest. They move the ponds every 5-10 years to new aspen regrowth. The forest was last logged in 1936. I grew up wandering in it. 💚

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io Communist leaders have been obscenely romanticised by western leftists. They all used marx's thoughts on the need for a leadership to 'educate' the masses to manipulate themselves into power and subjugate the masses. Pretty sure that's not what marx had in mind. I prefer Rohava's evolution of it into a cultural federlism.

@jonny@neuromatch.social Amazing how the media has paralysed people around questions of childrens safety. Speed and strangers were no less dangerous when I was 11, 60 years ago and we all rode hell bent for leather anything we could get our hands on and spent hours on the streets or in the woods with no supervision. Noone was concerned. We are being played by media generated fear that has little relative significance against the multiple dangers and issues of bigger and bigger gas vehicles. Auto accidents are a top killer and crippler in the US. The attitude of automobile drivers plays a part in safety, too. 'Me and my moped' been regularily harrassed and screamed at to get off the road by macho types bent on breaking speed limits.

@shoq When I was school age around 60 years ago in MN it was part of almost every year of my grade school curriculum and specifically required as seperate studies on various state or federal functioning at a couple levels of highschool. I remember it as the requirement many kids groaned over. It was also emphasized in my required american history course in 8th grade. Lots of field trips to things like the local jail with the da, a tour of the voting machines, lecture by the woman voters association, a session of the state legislature to see how laws are made, etc. They actually taught something closer to real history of the competing views over the writing of the constitution than they do now, although it was all from the euro american colonizer view. In that class I had a hard core exam on the US constitution, its amendments, and how the amendments came to be. I understood my civics and democratic responsibilities and constraints very well by graduation. I homeschooled my kids in the 90's forward because the school curriculums had become downright ignorant. I totally agree part of our problem is the last decades of public school graduates are not only uneducated on our government but have been taught falsehoods about how the law and its administration has evolved as people continued to fight for and expand their citizen rights. There has been a decades long effort to dumb education down by right wing and religious factions. I guess I should have said it always was required when I was growing up. Not anymore.

@gimulnautti@mastodon.green @DeliaChristina@sfba.social I hear you, but choosing which facts to frame ones world view with and ignoring likely conseqences of ones actions is not a survival strategy. To me, that translates to 'something wrong' from a biological systems point of view. I agree that is a conservative strategy that many won't change even when they clearly see the cliff they are walking over. I'm just hoping social evolution removes these people before they drag us all over the cliff with their billions in leverage.
