Y’all. Texas where I am hasn’t had measurable rain since May, and the weather man is saying we’re finally going to get water from the sky. Yay, you say…except, this land is clay and limestone. Dry, dry, 5” deep cracks in the ground, dry soil. If we get the projected rainfall, it’s gonna flood. And if it floods on the prairie, it’s gonna be nightmare time in the Hill Country and below. So, if you’re one of the millions of folks who moved here since the last go round with weather, when the rains come, it will flood. Do not go in to moving water. It’s deeper and stronger than you think. If it can move a cow, it will kill you. Creeks will rise, low roads will be impassable, turn around, do not try to cross it. If someone tells you to evacuate, do it. I’m getting too old to ride horses to look for the bodies of folks that do not go when told.

You know the whole #Coxon #Anthropic "We're all gonna die" thing? It's kinda looking like paid astroturfing. Marketing psyop to coincide with #Nvidia declaring that microchips are "long term investible assets". We are being played, y'all. Jacob had almost zero footprint, wiped his X before the post, and had only been at Anthropic for a few months. Within a few minutes of the WSJ dropping the story, he does his announcement post on the twitters, and is instantly boosted by some of the biggest names in the AI field, which is not how organic engagement works for an account with no followers. His follower count goes up by hundreds of thousands, he gets media attention everywhere, and suddenly everyone is talking about LLM like it's a mind, and not a computer with an OFF switch. At the same time, Nvidia hard launches the term "AI Factory" to rebrand datacenters and try and raise 500 billion dollars from your retirement fund. I dunno gang, I think I'm calling shenanigans on this.

I’m working under the assumption that people around me are going to be hungry, and I’m stocking for that, because I have space and resources. Not like a prepper, really…more like having 50 pounds of rice and beans in mason jars I can give away. I’m stocking things that America doesn’t produce in quantity or at all; green coffee beans, tea, rice, spices. The wheat crop has been terrible here and abroad, flour is going to get expensive, and the knockoff effect will be massive. All of this in a country where billionaires buy yachts for their yachts and 1 in 4 children are hungry and food insecure. There’s gonna be heads on spikes before this is over, if the path flows as currents indicate.

Sorry I’m about to talk about cows again. But seriously, this announcement from Trump was nothing but a ploy to depress head prices on the Sept 1 sales. (We’ve talked before about how cattle sales work, I won’t bore you again, but 1st of month is a big deal.) Why do I say it was a ploy? Because I can math. 300,000 tons of beef would mean 1.2 MILLION head of cattle would go to slaughter just for ground beef, no sirloins, no ribeye, no filet…if the whole cow was ground up, it would take that many cows. That stock doesn’t exist anywhere on earth. What Trump said he would do, is not a thing which can be done. He’s just moving markets. By the time anyone can do the math, you’ve already lost $$$ on the steer in the feed lot. And I say to the yeehawdists, I told you. You didn’t believe me. Why didn’t you believe me? Today, I will mostly be making Maghmour (Lebanese moussaka) and pide bread. I will also be giving up on the entire concept of fake nails. As Bob is my witless, I am an anti-glue force of nature. Things don’t fall off, they fly as though my fingers have said ptooooie at them. I suspect they were not designed for people who wash their hands a million times a day, and who do things like bake bread and cook, and get gunk under their nails. Every once in a while, I get fussed and try to perform visible, societal femininity. I’m not terribly good at it. Nobody around me expects it, but I’m dealing with a lot of medical people who tend to treat menopausal women as invisible, and a good looking manicure does make a difference when one is pulling power plays. It shouldn’t, but it does. Maybe I’ll start going to the doctor in the 1950s, ie dress in hat and gloves. 😂💃🏻

Y'all remember back in the days ago when an #OpenAI model "escaped" and it was all the news for a minute? #Anthropic said "hold my beer" and admitted that its Red team had left access to the internet open, and allowed the models to commit felonies unsupervised. The model performed actions that if you or I did it, we'd be getting a visit from men with dark glasses...but with AI companies it's just "Whoopsies! Sorry about the infiltration, stealing your credentials, uploading malware and stuff. Our bad. Oopserdoodles! Hey, have you tried our chatbot, tho?" There must be a reckoning. Wealth should not shield one from consequence. There are valid use cases for AI and machine learning. Gods forbid the BillionaireBros spend any of their capital doing good stuff like Nobel Prize science....lets throw it all at chat bots that hurt people but we can advertise while they do it.

I have a luncheon to attend in a few short minutes. It is 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and it feels like 108. I tell you that story so I can tell you this one; there is no way to apply socially mandated makeup for women of certain age in this heat. I would need a trowel, a quickset concrete and spray cans. I’m going bare faced and I dare anyone to say something.

It gives people the dopamine hit of "creation", but without any real connection to the art the "creation" plagiarized. There's no emotion, no meaning, no skill, no mastery, no muses...it's a machine spitting out predictive tokens that teach the user nothing of value. It's a slot machine that kills the planet and never has a payout for anyone but the house.

@Wen@mastodon.scot To be fair, the Republicans have spent my entire lifetime, and I'm old, dismantling the education system because they're still mad about desegregation. One neighbor is a teacher, and another is a librarian, and the literacy rates they report are staggeringly bad. Some kids are hitting high school still functionally illiterate. And it is by design. Ignorant people are significantly easier to control.

We have painted 60% of our population into an economic corner. 30% think they can hang on because they haven't fully grasped how seismic the economic change has been, and 10% are enjoying the spoils of the labor. (US numbers) In 1965 the CEO to Worker pay ration was 21:1. In 2025 it was 290:1 In 2025, CEO pay increased by 25.6%, while workers saw an average increase of 1.3%. They deserve what's coming for them.

We don’t have the ground resources to support feeding people. For a general strike to succeed it has to be a societal endeavor, and will require the middle class to join ranks with the worker class, and we have to have plans to feed and prevent evictions for those who join. That said, the food crisis that is coming is likely to start full scale revolution with looting, and at that point, all bets for peaceful protest start to look out of reach.
