National vs NZFirst -- the scrapping continues
Something weird is going on with the power. The lights are going off, then flashing on for a few seconds then going off again. My Evnex wallcharger must have a battery because it's beeping, but the router is still working, as are the external hard drives and the standby light is on for the TV. The Fridge has a low orange glow instead of a light, and the printer periodically does a start up check. It's like there is enough power coming through for low draw devices but not enough for normal operation. Neighbours have got a call in to Electra, so we'll see if that fixes anything. Think I'll go to bed.
And that's me done for tonight.

@Daveosaurus@mastodon.nz Used to see them at The Terminus, back in the day, on a Friday night. There was a space upstairs in the "Lounge Bar" where bands would play. There was also a spacies table with Galaxian and Pacman on it that we used to monopolise. One night Andrew Fagan came over to ask us to stop playing - not because of the sound but because the pub was too cheap to spring for three phase power and the band had just got new amps and it was all too much for the single circuit allocated to both the band and the spacies table. We stopped until they stopped between sets and then we played until they started again. Good times.

Back when you and I were on the ISOCNZ council, I made it my job(as a government employee) to keep the government's hands off .nz because I knew there was no entity within government that had any idea what to do with it except regulate it, and I preferred (mostly) the ISOC approach of letting it breathe and grow organically.
Now, I think I agree with you that the government probably needs more involvement to stave off wombats like the FSU/TPU/Farrar Axis of Evil. Because if the government doesn't do it, then a corporation will buy its way in.

Melania Trump stated that she met her husband, by chance, at a party. What she neglected to mention was that the person she met was Marla Maple's husband at the time. Yet she talked about ethical standards, humility, and respect in her statement the other day. I might assume her poor English is responsible for not understanding what those words mean, but I suspect it's her poor character.
She also said that her email reply to Maxwell was "trival". Apart from the inability to learn English in the nearly 30 years she's lived in America (Einstein visa my arse), the fact is that she did not reply to Maxwell - Maxwell replied to her. It's all lies, all the way down.

@ArrestJK@mastodon.nz True enough, but there are too many councils and most of them are technically insolvent because of the amount of debt they've been forced to take on to cover services that central government has "devolved" to them. What I'm not seeing from National is what they're actually looking to achieve with this restructure.

@johncarlosbaez@mathstodon.xyz Except that the bottles behind the barmaid are not the mirror image of the bottles in front, and they are at the furthest edge of the "reflected" slab and also at the furthest edge of the front slab. (I notice Park's reconstruction does this too, which makes me suspect it). Also, the gilded straight line reminds me of a picture frame, soooo maybe it's a painting of a barmaid standing in front of another *painting" of a bar from behind showing a customer being served. Which would be extremely meta of Manet, but not unheard of.
Also, if the wall behind the front bar is supposed to be a mirror, it doesn't make sense, because is shows the balcony on the opposite side of the room and only open space between the balcony and the bar. So where is the customer supposed to be standing?

@blogdiva@mastodon.social There's been news coverage of this. I think it's because of FIFA requirements - the estimated the overall cost to NJ Transit will be $62 million. The federal government is contributing $10.6 million, and the host committee is giving just over $3 million, which leaves NJ Transit footing the bill for $48 million with no help from FIFA. And NJT didn't want to put that bill onto NJ residents as most of them will not be going to the games, as the debt would take years to pay off.
It sucks that it's so expensive, but that's really on FIFA, as are the ticket prices.
