Flip-dot display over RS485 over USB over TCP over SSH over PTY over HTTP. With a dash of RTSP. (I wrote a little web server to control @hswaw@social.hackerspace.pl's flip-dot more easily, hacking on it from home with the help of video streaming)

Friends! I'm looking for (remote) work in:

  • systems programming of all sorts
  • distributed systems
  • performance engineering
  • next-gen tooling and infra broadly speaking

I'm a software engineer with 20 years of experience. More about my work: https://radex.io/hire-me/

I'm very rarely available for work! You will not regret hiring me ☺️

(Boosts and introductions much appreciated!)

I'm looking for a C compiler that:

  • is simpler and smaller than TinyCC
  • is capable of compiling TinyCC
  • is written in very simple C or a language simpler than C
  • can plausibly support risc-v (I can add codegen myself, just can't have deeply hardcoded x86 assumptions)
  • has a FOSS license
  • is not GNU Mes

Does anything matching these criteria exist?

@rysiek to a certain extent, I understand the attitude of “hey, this is just a hobby project, I made it for free, don’t expect *anything*”. I too dislike the entitled attitude of users of open source stuff. *but* the moment this “toy project” became wildly popular, he should have taken down the website and put a big fat warning on GitHub to scare away people who are not experts (but have at least two brain cells). It’s this part that’s, as you said — utterly negligent.

@franzs@social.tchncs.de right? I’m slowly being driven mad by being on the lookout for LLM tells. So, as a courtesy to readers, I like to promise (ideally up front) that I don’t do that.

Inspired by @ar@is-a.cat, I'm releasing 22 of my CAD/3D printing/lasercutting designs:

https://code.hackerspace.pl/radex/objects

I've included a screenshot.png for each one, a STEP export, and the original Fusion files. Some might even be useful to others!

@rysiek Right, I haven't actually paid much attention, so I don't know. I'm just saying that in the culture where promoting/marketing hobby/open source projects is even a thing, I would forgive making that mistake initially - but I'd expect a quick reaction on first signs of popularity and/or pushback. (Which obviously *still* did not happen)

Replying to
@seanreilly@mastodon.social with a regular password manager, you can fool someone into giving credentials to another website. My *guess* is that passkey designers wanted to avoid that. This also forces website authors to stop changing the login page url every few years (which is how even a sophisticated user can get fooled with a typosquat domain or something)

Replying to
@mackuba@martianbase.net @hswaw@social.hackerspace.pl In my (limited) experience yes, although how heavy a page render is also matters. I expect it would be harder to kill an nginx serving static pages (or, perhaps, you wold kill it but network would be the bottleneck). Our Dokuwiki instance doesn't have _that_ many pages, but it's pretty slow, so that's probably why bots are also noticeable.

@mackuba@martianbase.net between @hswaw@social.hackerspace.pl infra and my personal sites (also hosted on the same infra), only git forges (code.hackerspace.pl, gerrit.hackerspace.pl) have been a major problem, solved with Anubis. wiki.hackerspace.pl is also getting a ton of traffic, but only enough to slow it down, not overwhelm it. All other sites are either cheap enough to serve or don't have enough pages for scraper bots to be an operational problem

@domi@donotsta.re Very different from hswaw/bgpwtf infra, which is *vaaastly* more complex, managed by people with limited time and attention span, and yet it works remarkably well - because if something is truly broken, there's generally ~6 people capable of fixing it and at least one of them/us will be able to jump on the problem.
